Can you use Cherry MX switches on an ALPS keyboard?

SirSpicyWeiner

In the market for a mechanical keyboard, found a pretty decent looking rosewill one for cheap, but it uses alps. My budget is only around 40-50 dollars, and I couldnt find a cherry mx one in that range. So I was just curious if I could buy a set of mx switches and replace the ALPS with those. If anyone has suggestions for a cherry mx keyboard in that price range, please post it!

I would save a little more. Replacing the entire keyboard with different switches just seems like a huge hassle and has potential to not work at all. Never heard of anyone doing it so I wouldn't attempt it though I may be wrong.

I found a set of switches from a reliable seller for $2.50 USD on ebay. Might check out that monoprice keyboard you mentioned though, thank you!

Technically, yes. Though you could also do it with a rubber dome keyboard.

Practically, no. Those switches are probably attached to a pcb and it'd be a massive pain in the ass to replace them.

I do have some good news however. ALPS switches aren't bad, and in fact some people even prefer ALPS over Cherry and even bucking spring.

Yeah, it's advertised as a whole set but it could just be one. Not really sure about it.

UPDATE: Heard some bad stuff about the keyboard I was planning on getting, so I decided I'll end up saving a bit more money and probably get the CM Storm Quickfire TK with red switches. Thanks to everyone who replied!
