I figured I would.. repost this properly I guess, instead of just replying to the old topic I had created. If anyone could tell me how to delete that, that would be great.
But I digress. My current budget for my PC is $3000 AUD. However, it started at $2000 so I might stretch it to $3200

I plan on using this rig for gaming, and general stuff like web browsing, school work (3D Modelling and the like.)

At the moment, I only plan on having the one monitor, which has a resolution of 1920 x 1080. Is that good enough? I'll also be purchasing a new mouse, keyboard and headset.

I'm upgrading, honestly, because I want to, and I wouldn't mind having a spare pc for when friends and that come around, to save them from bringing their own.

The very first PC I built myself was three years ago and I haven't upgraded any of it's parts since.
Instead of just replacing bit by bit, I've decided to simply build a whole new one, and slowly service the current one.

Seeing as you're the eighth person to tell me that, I think I might.

For that much money, get a 780 instead.

I think I'll stick to the 770, the 780 break the budget a little too much.

if you only had 16 or even 8gb of ram, which is fine for what you're going to be doing, you'd save a nice chunk of money. 32gb is absolutely not necessary, especially for what you are going to be doing

also you don't need the 4gb version of that 770 since you're only using one monitor. You could save some money there too

I would rather buy more than what I need now, than upgrade at a later date. But I see where you're coming from.

true, well if you wanna "future proof" it a little, i dont blame you. but also, for the same price as your gtx 770 you can get an asus directcu ii r9 290 which is a similar performing card to a gtx 780

Ram is an easy update, and if you want "more than you need now" a 780 would be a must as the performance difference between a 780 and a 770 is massive. So you could get 16gb of RAM now and upgrade in a few years, as of right now, games don't use more that 8gb of RAM and very few programs benefit of +16gb RAM.

@Astrocrab,

I would suggest getting a high quality motherboard with onboard WiFi.

2x8GB of memory is sufficient for the usage that has been outlined. Regardless of the amount of memory, DDR3-1600 CAS <= 9 is a better choice than the CAS 10 Fury.

A more powerful gpu is possible with the given budget. AMD gpu are currently offering the best price/performance in most markets.

A 650W psu is more than sufficient for the build. If there is a definite plan  to add a second gpu then a 750W would be good. Something like the EVGA 220-G2-0750-XR.

My personal preference is for IPS monitors. They offer better color reproductions and viewing angles.

I generally don't like adding a bunch of fans until it has been determined that the stock are not sufficient.

You may want to consider using the fan headers on the motherboard and controlling the fans through software/BIOS.
