Hello good folk of the LTT forums,

I've had it for a while now but I cannot help but wonder. How bad is it to have your PC directly on carpet?

I've seen a few posts where people say that you get issues with static electricity, increased dust and suffocating your PSU if the fan faces downward. With this in mind I would like to ask you how much of an issue is it really?

Also whether it is serious or not what would be a good way to get my PC off the carpet that does not involve a piece of wood? I know the corsair 760T has those little stands which creates space for anyway bottom mounted fans or PSU's for which the fan faces downwards, is there such a thing you can buy separately for any case?

Depends, is your PSU at the bottom of the case, drawing air from underneath? If so, best not to have it on a carpet. Even more so, if it's a thick carpet. I personally have mine propped up on 2 big thick books, one of them is a copy of the Third Reich, the other is a big bible lol.

tl;dr best to keep it off the carpet. Prop it up with some old books, or something which can take the weight, and is durable enough.

Even on floors, it still collects a lot of dust. So I would put some elevation on it. I put mine on a table to keep it off the floor. I hear that dust hovers near ground level.

Say I made a wooden frame for my pc so that my pc sits about half a meter above the floor would that dust hovering around ground level still be an issue?

Nope. Before, when I put my pc on the floor, there was dust everywhere. When I elevated the PC, almost no dust comes through.
