Hey Linus and forum users,
I am looking to buy a new CPU and motherboard. Im currenty useing a ASUS GTX 760 and have a new Antec 620W PSU but my CPU is supper out dated. I am tottaly fine buying a new motherboard to suport my CPU so any processer is fair game.
My goal is to run BF4 conquest large at over 60 frames. I can currently place BF4 deathmatch or domination at a high framerate buy my computer has a hard time handleing bigger games with more players, is that a problem with my old CPU or is that my new graphics card? (gtx760)

Please give me CPU and Motherboard sugestions as well as advice for running games like BF4 and PS2 better

Thanks!!

We need a budget. Anyway, if you can, go for an i5-4690K and a Z97 board.

| CPU: An abacus | Motherboard: Tin foil | RAM: 2 Popsicle sticks | GPU: Virtual Boy | Case: Cardboard box | Storage: Cardboard | PSU: 3... Er... Make that 2 hamsters | Display(s): Broken glass | Cooling: Brawndo | Keyboard: More cardboard | Mouse: Jerry | Sound: 2 Cans of SpaghettiO's |

Welcome to Linus Tech Tips!

Depending on the budget your options would vary. However a good bang for the buck option would be the FX-8320, a Hyper 212 EVO, and the Gigabyte GA-970A-D3P.

BF4 multiplayer is slightly dependent on CPU power

any recent Intel Quad core CPU whether locked or unlock will do just fine (correct me on this)

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

I bought a used PC and I have since upgraded the case, the GPU, and PSU but the rest is kinda outdated.

Asus GTX760 Graphics card

AMD Phenom II X4 955 Prossesor

Antec 620 Watt Power supply
4GB RAM

720GB Hard drive (about to buy a SSD)
and I can not recall my motherboard but i plan on upgrading when I buy my new CPU.

I dont really have a price range but I dont need a motherboard that is overkill. I want a really good CPU but I dont want to pay extra money for a motherboard IF i dont need to.
If the total could come to less than 600 I would be plesently suprised and happy.

Thanks guys (can you tell im new at this?)

or the 4690K and Asus Z97-A

or 4460 with a H97 board

Dude.

Get more RAM. You'll want 8 GB's of RAM.

Check if you can upgrade to 8GB DDR3, if you cannot, get a new set together with your new Motherboard.

Either get the 4690k + MSI Gaming 5 or MSI Gaming 7,

or if you want to go budget, because of the RAM purchase

CPU: AMD FX-8350 4.0GHz 8-Core Processor  ($177.98 @ OutletPC)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-970A-D3P ATX AM3+/AM3 Motherboard  ($69.99 @ Newegg)
(you could get a fx-6300. fine CPU for BF4.)

Get 4 gigs more of RAM. Get a Z97 board. Get an i5-4770k or i5-4790k. That's if you can drop the cash.

If not

Get 4gigs more of RAM. AMD 8320 or 8350. AM3+ board.

At least that's what I think is a good AMD chipset. Haven't been awake for too long. Just remember to get a good CPU cooler as well, something like a CM 212 EVO

Edit: Meant 4670k or 4690k

Knowledge is power, guard it well.

no issues

only thing to note that your RAM will be clocked to the slowest in the memory bank

so if you are running DDR3 1033MHz

the new RAM will follow that speed

Would I see a big prefomance benifit if i decided to buy 4 sticks of new ram rather than adding 2 to my exsiting ram?

if you are getting new stick of RAM

get the 2 piece kits

that way you can upgrade by adding 2 more

if you buy 4 now

you will have to remove the old RAM for the new ones

1866mhz G.Skill Sniper is a cheap kit. Run it in my current build. As they where basical 1600ish ram's with 1866xmp. 2133 Trident X would also be an option if you want something faster.

Bye LTT. That was an interesting journey on this board. At least here you see how not to do it. I'll go shaking my head about this place.

I was thinking of getting 4 new sticks of ram and getting rid of my exsiting ram, do you think its worth it?

how big are the capacity?

generally you should be looking at 8GB to 16GB at most

32GB is crazy
