1440p > 4k?

kinkywink

hey guys, Im just thinking about future setups with monitors and what not and wanted your opinions!

im thinking of having either 1440p/27" or 4k/28" monitor, as my main monitor for gaming and photoshop etc.. but, i understand you need a lil bit extra horsepower for a 4k monitor which isnt really a problem as id just buy a second gpu and run it in a loop once i earn some more money...

but what would actually be better..? 4k for ultra sharp over the top resolution? or just 1440p, a decent upgrade form 1080p?

If you want something decent between the two, check out LG's 21:9 1440p monitor. Good aspect ratio for gaming, as well as some good multitasking space for your photoshop and other programs. Still an upgrade from 1080p, but it will cost as much as a 4k monitor, so it's up to you.

EDIT: But if you just wanted a 1440p vs 4k, I would go 4k for your photo work. Really depends on how much you do.

4k is obviously better, but I'd go with a 1440p monitor until better 4k options are available for a decent price

4K isn't a viable option for gaming at this present moment. Wait a couple years.

thats the point though, because its not just for gaming, photo work as well

i was looking at some monitors, and theres a 28" 4k monitor for 800 which i feel isnt to bad if its being used correctly, like im more than happy to pay that if itll work..

If you want to be futureproof then you can get 4K, but it will obviously be more expensive. It will be great for photo work but don't expect to be gaming at 4K on it though, but you can still turn it down to 1080p or 1440p in-game

If you're that concerned about photo work, wouldn't a PA or more photo oriented monitor be more suiting?

The cheaper 4k monitors are largely TN panels, and while they're better TN panels than most, they're not quite as good as an IPS monitor.

Just as there's more to what you want to do than gaming, there's much more to a monitor than simple pixel count.

Not off the top of my head, but LG and NEC are usually the better choices if you're looking for large IPS panels.D

Dell is also a pretty good contender. None of them are what I'd call cheap though, right up there with the 4k variety.

It's actually quite a good monitor, especially for the price. Yeah I'd get it over the Asus, but I'm not a person who freaks out over colors, and I'd still rather save money and get the PLS QNIX :P
