So what I need help with is getting some very important questions answered before I start my very first bios/UEFI flash. The reason I am doing it is because I was preparing my system to dual-boot Ubuntu and windows 8. It said i had to disable fast boot. I did, and went on to setup the dual-boot but it didn't go well. So I deleted Linux and went back into the bios to re-enable that setting but did not see it anymore. Now I read that I MUST re-flash the bios in order to get that setting back. So any help I get is greatly appreciated!!!!

1. Is the F14 Gigabyte bios supposed to have the fast boot option in the bios/uefi?

2. What are the correct steps in the correct order to safely and properly flash the UEFI/Bios with an OC'ed CPU?

3. If there are no storms, and no surges or anything else like that and no one touching the power controls, can a bios/UEFI flash fail for no reason or randomly? If so, how?

4. With a dual UEFI bios, if the bios flash fails on the main bios, is the recovery automatic or manually started? If manually started how?

I ask these questions because I have tried to Google the answers. Nothing solid. Everything only either a theory or just a plain guess. Thanks for any help answering any of these questions!!!!

Have you pulled the CMOS battery to see if that brings the option back before flashing?

I have not, I don't know how to do it. And I don't know what it looks like. Also, don't know how long to do it for.

Put a flathead on the tab you see at the right and push it upwards. It will just pop out.

Make sure the system is powered off and disconnected from the wall.

Keep it out for 10 minutes or so.

Something I just remembered is that the instructions said clearing the cmos won't fix it.

Set all your settings back to defualt(no overclocks)

Download the latest bios from the manufactures website.

Put that file on a USB flash drive

Restart your computer, enter the bios. Go to the flash utility(should have one)

Click the file in the USB drive, it should ask you if you want to update your bios. Click yes if you are ready.

It's not as scary as you think. I've flashed mine a couple times now with updated bios. Just make sure everything is well connected and nothing is around to mess up something(kids, animals).

When you're ready to update it just click yes and let it do it's thing. Wait until it's completely booted back to windows before touching anything

Thanks you for the help. But just to help me set aside some serious fears of bios updating. I heard that power failures like surges, outages, someone touching power source and/or controls can mess it up. Also, of course knocking the computer over can mess it up. However, i'm more afraid that bios updates can/will fail randomly or just with no reason at all. And that's what keeps me from doing it. Is there any chance of it failing randomly or no reason at all and still fail? I really want to do it but that's my only unpreventable (as far as I know) fear. Thanks again for you great help! Just one side question, is it bad to flash the same version bios you're using?

It is very rare for the update to fail randomly. Yes power surges can, just make sure it isn't storming and turn everything off you're not using in the house. No I don't believe it's bad to flash the same version. Some even revert to old bios.

It's definitely scary at first but once you see how easy it is now you will have no problems in the future.

Thanks again for the help. Something I just remembered to ask you though. Since I have a dual-bios board, if the main bios flash fails. would the bios recovery start after reboot? Also, for the backup bios can you make changes to the setting in the backup bios at all? Thanks again for bearing with me!!!!

For that I'm not sure never used a dual bios board. There might be a switch on the board to switch between the bios, but again I'm not sure.

You're welcome though. Just remember to set everything back to stock settings when you do it.
