Can i just go with maximum core clock and max mem clock on the gpu? I ran msi kombustor for 1 min to see if it is stable (1030mhz core) is it enough? GPU- r9 270, and when i start msi kombustor the temps go from 40Celsius to 70 celsius quick - is this normal? Will it be like this in games like bf4, crysis 3? AMD FX 8350 - what oc did you go with? Should i use prime 95 to test stability? I have the "Zalman CNPS5X " cpu cooler.

CPU: AMD FX 8350 | GPU: AMD R9 270 Windforce | MOBO: ASRock 990FX Extreme 3 | RAM: Kingston HyperX 8GB | Case: X Predator X1 |CPU COOLER: Hyper T4

I dont like Kombuster, I find Kombuster is only good for temperatures.  I find Valley or Heaven Benchmarks to be the best evaluation of real performance.

Can you please answer the other questions? Is going from (gpu) 40 Celsius to 70 celsius in 1min normal when runing kombustor?

that is normal

gpus can go up to 80 degrees and higher

Running any testing software for 1 minute isn't enough to check stability, whether it be Kombuster or whatever else you choose. You want to run your stability software for AT LEAST as long as your usual gaming session. I always test my clocks for a minimum of 4 hours, and average about 8.

That's absolutely normal, Kombustor is pushing your GPU to its limits so there's going to be a temp jump. Normally with something like that, you'll see it kick up really hot and slowly trickle down as your fan speeds up to cool it properly.

LoL not waiting 4 hours :DD just pushed everything to the max 1050 core clock and 1500 mem and got a nice improvment. Do you know how to use prime 95? -_-. amd catalyst manager "auto tuned" the clock and 4.4 was stable.

yeah, its normal in Kombustor, and really theres no right or wrong necessarily when it comes to overclocking, every card can be different and it really depends on how good of a card you have.

also, something like OCCT I think would be good for an AMD CPU, but dont quote me on that I'm not the best with AMD cpus.

Though my advice when overclocking your graphics card is to see how high (stable) you can get at stock voltage, and then if you feel you need more you can go from there.

Anyone who has experience with OCing will tell you,. if you're not going to spend the time doing it right. Don't do it. You're going to end up burning up your parts.

without modifying voltage - 1050 core clock and 1500 mem clock on msi afterburner - cant go more. How the hell to start the prime 95 test..

How ? 4 hours is a lot. If i will test it with what should i test it? Kombustor?

The max temp for 7870, 270, & 270x is 80-82c. Normal operating temps at 100% load is 59-72c depending on cooling.

Kombuster is a bad benchmark tool for gpu's.

I use valley, heaven, 3dmark, aida64 extreme, Novabench.

run a benchmarking tool for 15minutes to 1 hour to check stability & temps. look for artifacts while the benchmark runs.

recommend you make a fan profile if you OC, to control heat issues

No offense to Jay, but this is a terrible guide to overclocking.

Didn't link it as a guide, more as basic information on OC'ing. A guide would have gone in detail how to OC in increments(15-25Mhz @ a time). Testing & monitoring temps, also checking for artifacts. Backing off on volts ect.. But I get what your saying. Also delete the videos if your gonna quote someone, makes forums messy.
