You should look at getting the 4790K, it is basically the 4770Ks replacement. As for the board, MSI Gaming 5 has been doing pretty well.

Here is a link to a build

Welcome to LTT. Give me a moment to make you a build. Also is that $700 for CPU Motherboard and PSU? Or does something else need to be included?

Edit: ALso if this system is primarily for gaming you are wasting money on an I7. Also do you plan to CF/SLI in the future?

RIG: I7-4790k @ 4.5GHz | MSI Z97S SLI Plus | 12GB Geil Dragon RAM 1333MHz | Gigabyte G1 Gaming GTX 970 (1550MHz core/7800MHz memory) @ +18mV(Maxed out at 1650/7800 so far) | Corsair RM750 | Samsung 840 EVO 120GB, 1TB Seagate Barracuda | Fractal Design Arc Midi R2 (Closed) | Sound Blaster Z                                                                                                                        Getting: Noctua NH-D15 | Possible 250GB Samsung 850 Evo                                                                                        Need a console killer that actually shits on every console? Here you go (No MIR/Promo)

So I'm doing my long needed computer upgrade, my current specs are listed below.

qjwqaGk.png

Anywhore, I'm planning on upgrading my CPU because it bottlenecks my GPU and I need to purchase a new motherboard with the CPU because the socket is different for Intels (no duh)

I'm thinking about buying a i7-4470K, what motherboard should I buy with it?

My budget is not big, maybe $700 at max (including a PSU)

Thanks!

Is there any particular reason that you want to go Intel this time?  According to Asus (http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/M5A97/HelpDesk_CPU/) you are fine with getting a FX6300 or FX8320, both of which are under $200 iirc, and would be a decent upgrade from your old phenom.

I actually forgot my other LTT account, I joined last year in May sometime.

But I am planning on doing 660 TI SLI in the near future

Optimized is not the word to use. I understand what you are saying though (I am an Intel user, but that is because I need the IPC for my work).

In that case, get a i5, any of them that suits you (Overclocking does very little for 99% of games), or a Xeon E3 1230 or above (same price as a i5, same performance as i7). Board wise, look at ASrock, Asus, MSI, or Gigabyte in the 80 and 90 series chipsets and you will be fine. Note that H and Q chipsets can not overclock, Z can overclock.

Then go this definitely. However if you game 99% of the time It would be wiser to save money and go I5. If you go I5 you will want to go I5-4690k.

Compatibility? Is that the word I should use? Haha

And I also do graphics and 3D rendering AND video making so I need a good i7 CPU

Performance is the word you are looking for. The IPC of the Intel offerings just stomps the AMD competition.

That aside, take a serious look at the Intel Xeon E3 1200V3 line. As ling as you get the 1230 or higher, you are getting a i7 at an i5 price point.
