So it's the time to upgrade my PC from it's original state from last September. I noticed that my processor (AMD FX-6200) was the weakest link in the build - as seen here. I currently have Dual XFX Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition 3GB and I was curious on other people's opinions if you would think if it's a great idea to go with the AMD 9370. I'm looking for power/performance, not necessarily price. I've been in Boot camp since march and haven't been updated on newer technologies.

TL;DR:

Upgrade from AMD FX-6200 to AMD FX9370?

EDIT:

- corrected '9350' to '9370' in topic title

One of the most massive mistake you could be doing. Either get FX 8320 (not big improvement at all) or sell mobo and cpu and buy i5 4690k and Z97 motherboard.

FX 9370 is crazy and useless beast, that not all motherboards can feed (electricity) and heat output is to big. And i5 easily keeps up in everything, maybe, exept for video rendering, but still in games 4 i5 cores are giving the same fps as 8 FX 9XXX cores.

If you do it, be prepared to get a badass cooler like a noctua nhd15, because the stock cooler simply WON'T cut it. I suggest you get an 8350 instead and overclock it a bit, it's a better choice. Others are saying "go intel" and "get a 4690k" but honestly with the costs involved in changing both the motherboard and the cpu (the 4690k is very expensive too compared to the 8350) it's hardly worth it. Go intel for your next build if you want more power, but as it stands the best choice is getting an 8350, you can find one for about 180 bucks and maybe you can sell your cpu for 80 or so.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

It annoys me when every intel fan boy says to go get intel. I had intel in my last build specifically a Core i7 950 but the motherboard died then I sold the CPU and went AMD, no regrets. I did plan on trying an intel build in the future but not till a few more years.

I'm running an intel right now, but that doesn't mean I won't use common sense ^^
