I would only ever recommend AMD CPUs for a lower budget, for 500$, get yourself an intel 6 core.

Okay so if your total budget for the build is 500$ go for a cheaper AMD chip and spend more money on the GPU.

what should i go for on a budget of $500 AMD or Intel?

You could build a pretty good apu system or pentium/i3 system since you're use case isn't too intensive.

500 bucks for his whole build, not the CPU alone

Lol then he wouldn't have any cash at all to spend on other components if he got a 6 core.

Ah okay thank you for the clarification, in that case AMD is probably a better option.

to be honest i've been considering a 6 core FX chip but i'm not sure

Forget about what I said earlier, I though your budget for the CPU alone was 500$. But for a 500$ build go for an AMD cpu.

Not a bad plan. I went with an APU myself but the FX is slightly faster because not much supports hsa yet.

I cannot be held responsible for any bad advice given.

I've no idea why the world is afraid of 3D-printed guns when clearly 3D-printed crossbows would be more practical for now.

My rig: The StealthRay. Plans for a newer, better version of its mufflers are already being made.

LOL thanks, i wish i could spend that much on a CPU but i'm skint

Actually, if you go intel, you could go for the pentium anniversary edition g3258, which Linus managed to get an amazing overclock on.

Plus it's 70$

2500k is i5 though. He said i7 so that'd be a 2600k or 2700k.

People usually forget about the poor pentium xD, it's a great overclocker, but it's only a dual core. As in getting older i7s/i5s, I could recommend you a few, what's the rest of your build looking like; what's your budget for the CPU alone?

INTEL I7 4790K @4.6Ghz |  ASUS Z97-A  |  CORSAIR Vengeance Pro 1866Mhz 16gb | NVIDIA GTX 780 | NZXT H440 White | CORSAIR RM750 | SAMSUNG 840 EVO | WD Caviar Black 1TB | LIQUID COOLED |

One with Intel         ,     one with AMD

Pentium anniversary   |    FX-6300

In each list there are 2 graphics cards. Use the one that your budget allows , if you don't need power supply choose the more expensive graphics card.

That fx-6300 IS better than the pentium g .

My advice if budget > go AMD [ FX-8320 > FX-6300 > G3258

I hATE sIGNATURES  ;)
