I would say AMD in that case.

Okay so if your total budget for the build is 500$ go for a cheaper AMD chip and spend more money on the GPU.

You could build a pretty good apu system or pentium/i3 system since you're use case isn't too intensive.

to be honest i've been considering a 6 core FX chip but i'm not sure

Forget about what I said earlier, I though your budget for the CPU alone was 500$. But for a 500$ build go for an AMD cpu.

Not a bad plan. I went with an APU myself but the FX is slightly faster because not much supports hsa yet.

imo dont go lower than a 6300 and if you live near microcenter you could get a 6300 and a mobo for 100$ http://www.microcenter.com/site/products/amd_bundles.aspx

Plus it's 70$

People usually forget about the poor pentium , it's a great overclocker, but it's only a dual core. As in getting older i7s/i5s, I could recommend you a few, what's the rest of your build looking like; what's your budget for the CPU alone?

Pentium anniversary   |    FX-6300

In each list there are 2 graphics cards. Use the one that your budget allows , if you don't need power supply choose the more expensive graphics card.

That fx-6300 IS better than the pentium g .

My advice if budget > go AMD [ FX-8320 > FX-6300 > G3258
