I'm trying to build a new computer, I started with Austin's Build, changed a few things, showed it to a friend and they recommended me this parts list:

intel Core i5-4690K Socket 1150 'Devils Canyon' (22nm) Quad Core Processor Retail with Heat Sink Fan

Asus H97M-E Socket 1150 micro-ATX Motherboard

Corsair Memory Vengeance Pro Series Red 8GB DDR3 1600 MHz XMP Dual Channel Desktop

Intel 120GB 530 Series SSD - Solid State Drive - SSDSC2BW120A401

Western Digital WD10EZEX 1TB HDD

http://www.scan.co.uk/products/1tb-wd-blue-wd10ezex-sata-iii-6gb-s-7200rpm-64mb-cache-8ms-oem-hdd

Graphic Card (get 280 non X version)
XFX R9-280 933M 3GB AMD PCI Express Graphics Card

Cooler Master GM-Series G550M 550W PSU - 80 PLUS Bronze

Coolermaster Silencio 352 Matt Black Micro-ATX Mini Tower Silent Case

Any changes/improvements? (About £650 right now)
I don't intend to over clock and this should last me for about 3 years.
My Budget is £750, not including monitor, including peripherals.

I have my eyes on these peripherals.

Red: (£150/£260)

or

Blue: (£250)

Steelseries: (£150)

Razer: (£270)

or

The mouse needs to be comfy, wireless (Or wired/wireless)
The headset needs to be wired, and a good mic.
I have my eyes on this monitor, I would like 24" £150

I don't need speakers,
The keyboard should be easy to type in, fast response, not too expensive.

Any help would be highly appreciated!

This is my first time on the forum too, so any pointers would bee good.

Edit:

I forgot to say, all parts should have a warranty for a minimum of 1 year.

Any ideas on how this will perform would be good too. :)

Also would like windows 8, maybe Steam OS when it comes out of Beta (And it supports all windows games)

Get a non-K CPU if you buy H97, or Z97 if K CPU (and you should overclock it)

Also I'd get Asus, MSI or Gigabyte video card rather than XFX. They have some outstanding aftermarket cooling solution for video cards

Lastly, Red perrpherals pack is my prefered choice. :)

Spoiler

Not bad for a first build however these are the points I would change:

-Get a more efficent power supply (trust me it will save £££ on electric over a year)

-Stay away from Razer peripherals

-Z97 Motherboard

-i5 4690 (non k) - saving money as overclocking never goes well for beginners so upgrade when you feel you're ready, it'll save you money in the short term and give you room to upgrade your PSU

-Aftermarket GPU (never reference!) Look into them and watch sone LTT Videos on the difference it makes

CPU: Intel Core i7 4770K @4.5GHz - CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i - Motherboard: Asus ROG Maximus VI Hero - Memory: Corsair Vengeance Pro Red 8GB (2x4GB) @1600 - Storage: WD Green 2TB, 128GB Corsair Force Series SSD - Graphics Card: Asus MATRIX R9 280x OC Case: Corsair Graphite 600T - Power Supply: Be Quiet Power Zone 650W - Monitor: 2x Acer S240HLbid - Keyboard: Corsair K70 (Cherry MX Red) - Mouse: Perixx MX-2000 - Audio: Logitech G430, Logitech Z506

What would be a better power supply and why stay away from Razer?

thx

I would reccomend the Corsair HX650W as its a good Modular 80 Plus Gold PSU

http://www.newegg.com/global/uk/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139012R&cm_re=corsair_hx650-_-17-139-012R-_-Product

Staying away from Razer is a personal preference turned genereal consensus as more and more Razer buyers feel that their products are overpriced and not a quality product at all for the price. Again I would reccomend Corsair and Logitech Peripherals.

You need a Z97 board as already mentioned, otherwise the 'k' cpu is a bit of a waste.

http://www.scan.co.uk/products/gigabyte-ga-z97m-ds3h-intel-z97-s-1150-ddr3-sata-iii-6gb-s-sata-raid-pcie-30-(x16)-vga-dvi-hdmi-matx

Why not do a pcpartpicker spec to get things cheaper ?

I change the Intel CPU to a non-k version.

Pcpartpicker mostly has scan.co.uk parts anyway...

If the wattage bothers you then this is a good alternative, very good, in fact!

What makes that power supply better than the one I have already chosen? (It just costs more to me, I want to know what makes it actually better)

The efficency of the power supply. Watch this LTT Video to learn more https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5vnXNyh9vIg

@Combatman12

I would get this Seasonic psu over the Corsair RM. It is a better power supply.

http://www.scan.co.uk/products/550w-seasonic-g-series-hybrid-modular-80-plus-gold-1x120mm-atx-psu

You don't need more than 550W for your spec.

Ok, I think this will be my final computer build, (probably)

I will look into peripherals a bit more, any recommendation would be good.

If I should make any changes to the build post below,

And thanks to everybody who contributed to my computer, I will post a Pic when it's done around christmas time!

:)
