Yes, that is definitely an option, I'm just concerned about VGA compatibility. I don't want to have to replace our monitors. I was also curious if we could undercut their price with a custom build.

HDMI is always an option for a nuc and VGA from display port adapter run less than $15 on monoprice, so that wont be a problem.

A NUC system will not be as fast as some of the other options being posted in their price ranges (they wont be slow just not as peppy) but where they really shine will be their power consumption. it should be around 1/2 or 1/3 the usage of the full builds.

System CPU : Ryzen 9 5950 doing whatever PBO lets it. Motherboard : Asus B550 Wifi II RAM 80GB 3600 CL 18 2x 32GB 2x 8GB GPUs Vega 56 & Tesla M40 Corsair 4000D Storage: many and varied small (512GB-1TB) SSD + 5TB WD Green PSU 1000W EVGA GOLD

These builds are close to what I'm looking for.  I'm wondering if the 1150 socket would be wiser because I'd like these machine to be able to keep up (with office work mind you) for about 4 years, and remain easily upgradable. A LOT of our work is just MSO applications, and web applications.

While I might be biased, I think the I3 would be better.  I choose 1 stick of memory to upgrade later.  But the I3 has HD4400 graphics vs UMA graphics on the G1620 which means it's aero performance might suck which is what it's being used for.

I agree If you want to extend the useful system life don't cheap out with a celeron.

also on the nuc front

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16856102057&cm_re=nuc-_-56-102-057-_-Product

comes with an I3 and free 4GB of ram so all you need to put in it is an os and SSD  and your off to the races (this nuc fits a full sized 2.5ssd while some of the smaller ones only fit the msata or PCI Express SSDs)

so 289.99 + 74.99 for an http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820211602&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=

system total is a cool $364.99 and you know power consumption will be kept down.

The kit comes with vesa mounts so they can be attached to the back of any vesa compatible monitor.

However, his monitor's are VGA are they not?  Well he could go VGA>Mini DP.  I know DP is very adaptable idk about mini though.  I would prefer a full fledged I3 to be honest, but the form factor is attractive.

You are correct I forgot to add the $13.75 for a mini DP to VGA adapter (from monoprice)  a mini dispayport is electrically identical to full sized, its really a great standard to work with. I wish my monitors supported it.

Edited to more closely resemble an understandable form of English.
