Hey guys,

I am getting my new pc soon (all custom parts, it's a beast I have to say...at least for a 16 year old haha) and it will be aircooled. BUT since I heard so many good things about watercooling and I'd love my build to be as quiet as possible, I'd like to upgrade to watercooling at some stage (in other words: as soon as i can afford it).

Now to my "problem":
I am one of these guys who are very concerned about the astethics of their build. At this stage, all of my parts are fully black (except for the fanrings, but these parts will be painted black. What doesn't fit is made fitting ;) ). Now I want my watercooling to fit this theme too. Can you guys give my some advice or even a kit name which is (at least mostly) black? And I dont mean those one-part-watercooling set like the Corsair H80i or something. I'd rather do all this stuff myself, as I want my pc to be as personal as it can be.
Some things i thought of SO FAR:

-Some kind of black colored coolant, but i have no idea which to take
-If that doesnt work, maybe black slightly translucent tubes? Any experience with that kind of stuff?
-Maybe WHITE coolant, which glows in blacklight, and in addition to that some blacklight in my case?

My case will be the NZXT Phantom 410 black, so I think I will have at least some space to work with.

For those who want to know my exact build:
Case: NZXT Phantom 410 black

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z97X-UD3H-BK Black Edition

CPU: Intel I7 4790K BOXED

GPU: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 780 Ghz Edition WindForce 3x

RAM: 2x4 GB Corsair Vengeance Black DDR3-1600 DIMM CL9

PSU: 650 Watt XFX XXX Edition Modular 80+ (any experience with this?)

and some Corsair Air Series AF140 Quiet Edition airflow Fans

Thanks in advance

the one that i have is from xspc and that one for the most part is black i believe it is the RayStorm D5 Photon RX240 V3 WaterCooling Kit and then you may add whatever die you desire

looks pretty interesting, but absolutely blows my budget. Can you think of something like this, just a little bit cheaper? Or do I have to pay around this much to get a decent watercooling set?

Use black hose instead of black dye, makes everything easier.

yeah, i was thinking of that too. But sure that this would still look cool? Do you have any pics of builds using these?

oh, okay, thanks. looks pretty awesome! And would totally fit in my system.

I am reading "60°C max temp" there, does it mean that if my pc is running @ more than 60°C it could meld or something?

how about this?

I dont know how much space there is for radiators with a Phantom 410, but as you said you were going for silence, a 360 (at least 30mm thick) radiator for cpu and gpu would be adequate.

Also this kit includes a bay reservoir. Tube reservoirs usually look a lot better, but require more room in the motherboard area, so you might want to look into that.

Concerning coolant, the only real black coolant I know is Mayhems Pastel Black, but going with a dyed coolant does involve the risk of decolorization. TTL, another youtuber, went with it and it turned chocolate brown after 2 month, eventhough he did all the professional cleaning and flushing, soo.... Im not saying it is going to happen, just that it could happen. Going with clear coolant and colored hose is usually the safer way.

take a look at those two

the website says it has 240 radiator support at the top, so i assume 360mm wont fit in there, at least not when I what to close it up again. a "slim" 140.2 radiator would fit (dont ask why it says 140.2 radiator. source: http://www.overclock3d.net/reviews/cases_cooling/nzxt_phantom_410_gun_metal_edition_review/4 )

also, I think it could be possible to mount a 120 radiator in the front, but I have to research on that.

as for the reservoir: I dont think you will see a tube reservoir, because the window at the side of the case is not very big, you can barely see the whole gpu. at least as far as i know

okay, then i will go with colored hose.

okay, 2 questions: firstly, how did you quote me with "*snip*", although i never wrote that?

secondly, this would cost about 300$, right? man, this is not cheap...

I just replaced the original post, didn't want to clutter up the thread by fully quoting it.

Custom loops aren't cheap, you don't wanna skimp on WC components either since we're talking about having water in close proximity to high-end PC components.

You could save by getting cheaper fittings (Koolance, EK, Monsoon), a DDC instead of a D5, etc. but you're still looking at a good $500-$600 if you want this loop done right.

I've had two DDC pumps fail on me, one 7w and one 14w version...both older, so I don't know if there's a new revision out that fixed the reliability problems. I did use them with XSPC tops because the fitting size on them stock is limited to 3/8" so a top is pretty much mandatory. Since both of them failed I switched to a D5 pump (used for about 3 years now) and not once has it ever given me a problem. And given that the pump is the only moving part in the system you want to make sure it's going to work.

well, okay, then i will have to save my money for the next half year or so...if i will upgrade to watercooling. because for me this is a veeeeeeery much money, and if the pc runs OK aircooled, AND IS SILENT, i wont make the upgrade i think.

but thanks for the answers, I will bookmark this page for if i will upgrade!

You could always make another thread here on the forums when you are ready  ;)

And yeah, custom watercooling is an expensive luxury.
