A machine fo software development and light gaming

Go to solution Solved by Megazero,

Hey!

I already have a mouse & keyboard, a graphics card (I'm thinking around 200EUR) will be added later on. Link to the parts: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/gJXgFT (note that I'm not from the states, so the prices on that link aren't correct for me, I used the site of a local store to choose the parts). I'm certainly not going to go with a more expensive build, but if you think something is a bit overkill, let me know and I'll see if I can find a more sensible replacement.

Is this build good for the money?

Nah, I dont see anything overkill there, rather I think it's better for you to upgrade the CPU and Mobo abit more, but for the price it's good. Depend on what kind of software development you are doing the performance may vary, but I think it will be good enough.

Looks good, but the HD 4600 GPU won't be good for any gaming as you can see here: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/core-i7-4770k-haswell-review,3521-4.html

ASUS ROG Strix B550-F + AMD Ryzen 5800X3D; ASUS 6800XT TUF; 16GB G.Skill TridentZ 3600; bequiet! Dark Power 13 850W; Samsung 860 Pro M.2 2TB; PHANTEKS Evolve X

That won't be too big of a problem, as I'm planning on getting an dedicated graphics card a month or two later. Meanwhile, I'm open to suggestions for which one I should choose.

Ah I understand. Well how much do you want to spend? And will the graphics card only have to do gaming, or are you doing software developement that needs GPU power (and if yes, CUDA or OpenGL?).

I don't really have a budget set for that right now. None of my development involves 3D graphics and the games I'll be playing will probably be something like CS:GO, League etc, so nothing that requires a high-end solution. I'm not sure yet if I need the ability to capture gameplay, this will probably depend on how much more do I need to pay for a card that can capture.

Capturing is in most cases not work for the GPU, but rather work for the CPU. The i5 should be enough to handle capturing games like CS:GO and LoL. For these games I would recommend a GTX 760 or a R9 270X. They are both great bang for the buck and you will have enough power for future games, too. The GTX 760 has the advantage of Shadowplay, which let's you captures your gameplay. AMD has that too in their AMD Gaming Evolved Software. But this software is a bit annoying I have to say as an AMD card user, and also the capture software is still a beta.

Thanks! I'm gonna put the thread on answered and make a new one once I get to actually buying a graphics card.
