I've seen this topic blasted around all the time in this and other forums, but none have helped me so far.

I recently overclocked my GPU a little. It is a Gainward GTX 570 Phantom. Stock it is:

Core volts - 975

Core clock - 750

Memory clock - 1950

I pushed it to:

Volts - 1100 (apparently this should be pushed all the way up)

Core clock - 850

Memory clock - 2100

I did this because I installed a few mods into F1 2012 and it needed the extra boost to run smooth. I played the game for about 2 hours without an issue.

Then I switched to Battlefield 3, and about 10 mins in, the PC shut down without warning - I tried again and the same outcome. Then I played Arma 3 and also F1 2012 again with the same result.

So I decided to put the GPU back to stock settings, but the PC still keeps shutting down about 10 mins into gaming.

I just checked the Windows Event Viewer and there are multiple entry's with error ID: 6008

System specs:

AMD Phenom II X4 965 BE at 3.8Ghz

Gigabyte GA-790FXTA-UD5

8GB Corsair 1600 (although at 1333, PC doesn't like 1600 for some reason) Vengeance

Gainward GTX 570 Phantom

Corsair HX850

Custom watercooled CPU -(GPU block on the way)

I should point out temps can't be the problem. At load (Furmark) the GPU reaches about 70. CPU at load is around 40.

Case is a Xigmatek Elysium with 2 x 120mm and 1 x 200m intake fans. And a 420mm rad as an exhaust.

Please help!!!

Edit, after this happening again, I looked back at the Event Viewer, and I had read the wrong event.

It is actually:

The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.

Log name: System

Source: Kernel-Power

Event ID: 41

Level: Critical

GPU reaches about 70.  in game. no cooler on it,  wow.

my system the gpu is 80.Fahrenheit  non game

is your card  at 70 Celsius or Fahrenheit . because that would be 158 Fahrenheit

i would run CPUID HWMonitor and play the game 5mins. then pause the game and check the temps

and i would go into bios and watch the voltages . or use CPUID HWMonitor

..and make sure voltages are right.

i no your Corsair HX850 .is a good name brand

but checking will not hurt

It's probably your GPU that's causing this. Have you tried rolling back to the WHQL drivers if you're on the beta ones?

It could also be your RAM. Try resetting everything to default including your CPU if you overclocked it. See if this error occurs again

My GPU idles at about 40 celcius (100 farenheit). In game it gets to about 55 - 60 celcius.

The 70 celcius was when running Furmark.

I'd rather it wasn't this high, so I have bought a waterblock for it. But I don't think this could be the problem.

I have just installed the newest WHQL driver.

I have noticed something weird though. Whilst running Furmark CPU load was about 50%, however 1 core was handling all of it. I'm sure it usually divides the load between the four?

Ill post back with more developments
