So i need to update my cpu, mobo, and ram.

Im currently using an nvidia 8800gt as my gpu.

My budget for these 3 things is 250 cad.

Id prefer to use the fx6300 as the cpu.

i wouldn't recommend overclocking with that mobo because the vrm heatsinks are not that good. You would spend more money on a asus m5a99fx pro if you want to overclock.

so if i had a better heatsink such as a dark rock 2, could i do some overclocking on it? or is it just the board that wouldnt hold up

No the motherboard is not very good to overclock even you had a hyper 212 evo. I'm talking about the mobo vrm heatsinks not cpu heatsink. Still recommond asus m5a97 r2.0 or asus m5a99fx pro.

edit; the mobo wouldn't hold up as well and be stable.
