I'd get the 780 SLI between waiting and choosing the 780 SLI. As TechFan pointed out, you'll be fine with the GPUs you already have.

In december, the 9970 is supposed to be released and it should have at least double the performance of a 7970 (at a price that's probably even lower than the current 780 price), so I'd suggest you wait what the future will bring.

Cooler Master 690 II Advanced - I5 2500K @ 4.5Ghz - Geil Enhance Plus 1750Mhz 8Gb - ASUS ENGTX 570 DCUII - MSI Z68aGD65 - Scythe Mugen 2 Rev. B - Samsung 830 128gb and Crucial m4 128gb - much other stuff not worth mentioning

And when 880/890 and Maxwell comes out, you will be asking should I get the GTX 980/990 and 6th gen CPU. The waiting game never ends.

Yup. This is true.

Waiting just leads to more waiting. Regardless of that, don't upgrade unless you aren't satisfied with the performance you have. If your FPS isn't enough for you, then upgrade.

Sorry but that's bull, there is a huge difference if you upgrade after 1 generation or after 2. The performance improvement after 1 Generation just won't justify the cost of a new card most of the time and for most people. The only thing I can agree with, and this is actually the one and only question anyone should aks himself, are you satisfied with the performance of your current hardware ? If no, upgrade. If yes, well then obviously not.

For people that always ask "should I wait for blah blah blah?" The problem is...we know nothing about Maxwell except that it'll improve communication speed between the GPU and CPU. That's it - we cannot give an answer The cards that we know of is one 700 series card, the Titan, and anything below that.

People who upgrade each gen are people who sell their cards at a very small loss, and are very satisfied with the results.

I was agreeing with this post.

As Linus states over and over again, a Generation change will come with a 15%~ Performance increase most of the time, it's been like that forever and won't change in the foreseeable future. The Performance increase will be there, there is just no evidance to think different. So as lons as you are satisfied with the performance, a new card is just useless.

If you can sell the Card for a minimal loss, than that's obviously a different story, but that won't change the fact that there will be a performance increase from generation to generation and as long as you are satisfied with the performance of your cards, there is no need to upgrade. Obviously that stays true when the card has seen 2 generations come and go.
