Hey Guys,

I had Gskill RAM 1866 MHZ. I am planning to buy 8/16 GB RAM more for virtualization(VM).

Can I buy different company RAM instead of same GSKILL RAM.

I bought this --> Gskill 8Gb X 1 Ddr3 1866Mhz Cl10 Ripjaws X RAM (F3-14900CL10S-8GBXL)

Now I am trying to buy  --> Corsair Vengeance Dual Channel 16 GB DDR3 Ram CMZ16GX3M2A1866C10R

Hoping once installed, both these RAMs will be compatible with my mobo.

Please let me know your views.

Thanks,

Mike

It could work and it could not work. It's really luck or no luck. Corsair memory itself is great, but it's not known for best compatiblity.

ASUS ROG Strix B550-F + AMD Ryzen 5800X3D; ASUS 6800XT TUF; 16GB G.Skill TridentZ 3600; bequiet! Dark Power 13 850W; Samsung 860 Pro M.2 2TB; PHANTEKS Evolve X

Generally it is not a good idea to mix and match different RAM kits.

If you can help it, get another G.Skill set with the same frequency and timings to ensure maximum compatibility. There's no real reason to switch from one brand to another anyway, RAM is RAM these days, and G.Skill make some good stuff.

and can I have different frequencies of RAM like one 1866 mhz and another 2133 mhz

No. As I said, different kits are a bad idea, but different kits with different frequencies are an even worse idea.

And I'm confused, are you saying you have 8 RAM sticks already? How much do you have right now, and how much are you looking to add? And how many RAM slots does your motherboard have?

OK, I have 8x2 GB RAM already having 1866 MHz, Now because I have to install some VMs which does need around 8 GB per VM so I think it is a better to get one or two 8 GB RAM sticks with same configuration.

I had purchased these 2 sticks from online and now that site have these out of stock so to fulfills my requirement, I was thinking to try other company's RAM.

But as you said, its not a good idea to have different company or different frequencies of RAM, I would better wait to get that RAM in stock.

I have ASUS Z87 Pro motherboard.

Ok, the Asus Z87 Pro only has 4 RAM slots, so when you said 8x2GB, you meant 2x8GB, as in a pair of 8GB sticks?

If that's the case then can't you just add another pair of 8GB 1866MHz sticks?
