That is a fantastic first build. Like LimeDK, the best upgrade that you can get would be to get a SSD. Other than that, you're golden.

My Rig:

  • CPU: 1090T@4.1ghz
  • GPU: Gigabyte 7870
  • MOBO: Crosshair Formula V
  • RAM: 8GB 1333mhz
  • PSU: 650w corsair HX
  • SSD: 120GB Kingston HyperX
  • Sound card: Asus Xonar DX

Yeah, the difference between a good SSD and any HDD is like night and day. Makes it hard working on other computers without SSDs though.

I'd drop the PSU, you don't need that much wattage. Save some money and get something in the 550w range. I'd save some money on the motherboard, a cheaper motherboard will get you same benefits, there isn't much to overclocking now and is a lot less motherboard dependent than in the past. Use the saved money to get a 120gb SSD.

Are there SSD's that only hold 20gb? I only really need one for my OS

There is 32 GB. But I would recomend getting at least 64 or 128 gb ssd. I prefer installing on ssd OS and all sowtware. Because annoying programs like photoshop or office starts instantly from ssd compared to traditional hdd.

No bother, why do you think you need 600w? That isn't true at all. An overclocked system at full load with a 7970 only uses about 390w. Anyway I would suggest anything MSI, Asus, Gigabyte, AsRock that is Z77. I really doesn't matter.
