Take off the GPU and the CPU cooler (If you have tower air cooler) and you should be totally fine :)

With a Water Cooling mount like an H100i he shouldn't have to remove that, right?

Just take out heavy things that are in the PCI slots (like a GPU) so they don't bend or break. If you have a tall air cooler, unmount that as well.

Empty your loop completely (if you have a custom loop, otherwise just take the AIO out) and take out the graphics card. You should be fine. Use lots of bubble wrap and soft foam.

For packing I plan on putting this thing in the back of my van with all my other crap and just driving it to school.

If you're flying, I would suggest you take out any loose parts, like hard drives, along with the GPU (cuz shit happens).

How would it break exactly?

The reason is because air baggage handlers aren't exactly known for their delicate hands - even when a package has Fragile stickers all over it. Graphics cards and tower coolers can already be seen to slightly bend in computers due to gravity so I wouldn't trust them to necessarily stay upright after being moved about a lot.

Why must you remove your GPU and cooler when moving?

You remove the GPU because GPUs are heavy and can easily snap the PCI slot if hit with enough force. Easy to break in shipping.

Remove tall air coolers for the same reason, enough force could rip them off of the CPU and mounting setup and damage your board.

Remove and empty cooling loops because the air pressure difference could cause the loop to burst and get coolant all over your mobo and other parts.

*edit: the cooling loop removal only applies for air shipping. If you're driving around with one that shouldn't cause any problems for a liquid setup.
