Basement Internet

Go to solution Solved by Archangel1994,

You can use range extenders for one. You can also send an ethernet cable from the primary router to one downstairs and have a 2nd network in your house (which is what I currently have, 1 wireless from ground floor and 1 wireless from 2 floors above the ground floor).

Hey guys, so I've got a new PC setup in my basement and right now I've got Internet via powerline (something like this: http://www.tp-link.pt/products/details/?categoryid=2244&model=TL-WPA4220).

I currently have the router on the second floor of my house (it's got basement, ground floor and second floor), and I want the Router to stay on the second floor as it has my parents office and a ton of Wi-Fi devices connected. The one problem I have is I want to also have wireless access in  the basement as well as more wired connections for a possible LAN party with friends or just another PC.

My Question is: Does a Access Point connect via ethernet cable or does it connect via wireless (if it is wireless there is no possible solution with the AP as I cannot get a signal in the basement).

I would some answers to this problem. Maybe a second router? A switch of some sort? Right now I am a 19 year old Computer Engineering student with some/little knowledge on advanced networking solutions.

Please Help, thanks!

Access points are generally connected via Ethernet you can get wireless ones but they're more range extenders than anything, if i remember rightly you can get Powerline waps with 2 Ethernet ports available, if you plan on setting up a lan you could get away with a switch but you say there's a lot of devices connected to the router already, so in that case you are better of buying a cheap router to do the lan on otherwise you're prone to lag

So you're saying that if I had another router I could basically have two distinct Internet connections? Is that a hard thing to do? What do I need to configure and what equipment do I need besides another router?

Currently I am using a range extender which I plug my ethernet cable into. I know, wired wireless internet. It's faster than the wired-connection-through-electrical-wire boxes so...yeah.

Wouldn't know whether it is really hard since I wasn't the one that set it up but I can't imagine it to be difficult. Equipment you need besides a 2nd router would be an ethernet cable to that router so it actually can be used to access the internet. Nothing fancy is required as far as I know but I would ask someone a bit more experienced than me IMO.
