oc amd x2 5400+

Hello,

 

im new at this forum but i watch a lot of linus tech tips.

 

here i my question.

a friend of mine has a quiet old pc:

specs:

amd x2 5400+ at 2.8ghz

4gb drr2 ram at 1066mhz

asus m3n78-em motherboard

saphire radeon  hd 7850 2gb

1hdd 500gb

2hdd 1tb

 

he want to make it faster.

so i want to overclock this processor.

 

is it usefull to oc it. and where is the limit for this processor???

Doubt if you'll get it past 3GHz OP, but you won't be doing that on the stock cooler. That processor is already bottlenecking that gpu imo.

He's better off to save money and upgrade to the Anniversary edition pentium, Right now he should just wait.

i already told him to buy a new pc instead of putting a videocard witch is to powerfull for the  rest but he wouldnt listen.

so i will tell him this processor is not good.
