Newish PC

Does anyone know where I can (maybe buy a new) PC? But it does not have to be new. It can be slightly used. My budget now is about 500-700 US Dollars. I do not want to buy from Ebay so keep that in mind. I want to buy it cheap because I only want to play DayZ, the new upcoming Rust, Survive the Nights etc...Any ideas?

Now, you know what you can expect from these barbarians. They are a race of rabid BASTARDS that will fight us tooth and nail! But they don't know what they're up against. Cyrodiil, is CIVILIZATION! Cyrodiil, is ORDER! Cyrodiil is POWER! And out here, WE. ARE. CYRODIIL.

With that budget you can buy a pc that can max out Dayz and any other game (maybe not crysis)

I don't know anything about AMD so I'll let someone else make a list. I don't know much about budget oriented parts.

day-z is cpu intensive, so good to have an overclockable chip so you can push the performance. R9 270x still one of the best for 1080p, 720p

What are you going to be doing with it? If you really don't want to build a PC buy one that meets most of your expectations, then modify the parts that don't.

The two PC PartPicker links above are good for all around use, but are very up or downgradeable

Would this one be just as good and max out DayZ over Nxl8's build?

Austin Evans did a build for around this price point recently.

CPU: Intel Core i3-4150 3.5GHz Dual-Core Processor  ($114.99 @ NCIX US)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-H97N-WIFI Mini ITX LGA1150 Motherboard  ($87.99 @ NCIX US)
Memory: Corsair Vengeance 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR3-1866 Memory  ($72.99 @ Newegg)
Storage: Samsung 840 EVO 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive  ($129.99 @ NCIX US)
Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 760 2GB ITX Video Card  ($247.98 @ Newegg)
Case: Cooler Master Elite 110 Mini ITX Tower Case  ($39.99 @ Mwave)
Power Supply: Corsair CX 430W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply  ($44.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $738.92

This build is slightly updated/different/more expensive than his but still uses the same principles and is what I would buy.

The graphics card isn't as good, but you would be able to overclock the CPU, but it is Haswell not Devil's Canyon. If you wanted to overclock I would suggest a Devil's Canyon CPU; it has better temps.

Also, as that build has no CPU cooler it would not overclock far on stock cooler.

That is a pretty good build, but at this price point I would prioritise CPU and GPU over an SSD, especially when playing games.

OP if you don't want to go with an AMD card you could go for the EVGA GTX 760 ACX http://pcpartpicker.com/part/evga-video-card-02gp42763kr It has all the Nvidia "features" but it will unlikely be as powerful.

Mini itx leaves little room to expand and little choice with a lot of things, BUT if you wanted to go with that build style get that 1TB Seagate barracuda I first mentioned. The GTX 760 mentioned is a special mini itx version so it should fit.

The problems with that build though is you are paying more for things you don't need to.

On a budget the CPU and GPU are most important, then the PSU, then case, then the mobo then other parts. That i3 will most likely be fine for now but it is expected games will be utilising more cores soon.

I would recommend also, to add to my original build, a wifi card if you plan to use it as that mobo I chose has not got built in wifi.

See this is why I hate trying to build them myself. At first you think that you've got everything you need for a good cheap price and will hold up for a good amount of time. Next thing you know, I need to add something or something is overpriced or some other little component that I don't understand needs to have a specific part in it.

Tell you what. Can you take this http://pcpartpicker.com/p/q7GZ99 and make changes to it for me so that everything seems reasonable (price wise) and (part wise)?

Well if your budget includes a monitor and mouse then that is probably the best you can do for the money. If not I will come up with something.

I just changed the PSU to non modular to save you some money.

The only thing you may need to add now is a wireless card if you are not using ethernet. http://pcpartpicker.com/part/tp-link-wireless-network-card-tlwn722n is the one I would go for if you need it.

I HIGHLY recommend buying 2 side fans. Left side intake, right side exhaust. I recommend either of these:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835608028

I would see what your temps are like first as you are over budget. If you think the temps are too high get new fans; I don't think it is worth it yet.

I didn't know I had to have a wireless card sticking out of the thing. I guess its not like my MacBook and connects to wifi regardless. But yes, I usually do everything over wifi. And what you said about the fans, you don't think the computer will get that hot? Oh and can you explain the purpose of thermal paste and if I need it on this thing?

I doubt the computer will get very hot but CPU/GPU goes above recommend temps then buy more fans. Temps will be on intel ark and GPU manufacturers website.

The stock heatsink has thermal paste pre-applied so don't worry about that. If you intend to put an aftermarket cooler on at any point then there are plenty of guides on YouTube etc that can explain thermal paste better than I can with text.

EDIT: I am afraid I cannot respond to any more of your queries as I have to sleep; it is midnight in the UK.

Thanks for your help man. This is my first time building a gaming pc. Quite honestly I have no idea what I'm doing. If I buy soon, I will probably get some friends to help assemble it. I feel that towards the end of this year when *maybe DayZ is better optimized it may run a little better on this machine. Matter of fact, here is a video of some guy with just a standard 750 running DayZ just fine. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DRXCe-JjCaM

I'm also looking into the new Rust coming out but I don't know about its specs yet...
