I read that the twisting of the wires inside an Ethernet Cable is important, one place saying "Transmitting Ethernet signals over a cable that small would not be possible without them." However I just bought an Ethernet Cable C.A.T 6 E (40 meters long), and when attaching the RJ45s I saw that my wires where not twisted. I was just wondering if it is so important, why mine aren't twisted and how this will affect anything? Do I need to buy a new cable or is it not important?

In every cable I have always made, the pairs are twisted together and not the four pairs twisted together if that makes sense.

Twisting the wires is supposed to prevent crosstalk between the cables. They're untwisted at the ends though.

This is correct, they won't be twisted for like .5 inch at the ends of the cable though, because it needs to fit inside the connector.

I cut a good 3-4inches off and they were still not twisted.

Cat 6E is not a standard. So it could literally be anything \: Normal the pairs are twisted then there is a + in the cable with a pair on each side and the + rotates through out the cable that twists the pairs with each other too.

Like this

Yeah, my pairs where not twisted. and the packageing said 6 e on, but i am sure when i bought iit, it said cat 6

How will crosstalk effect my experience?

It will cause more errors and packets to collide. This will reduce the overall throughput of the cable.

Speed or stability?

Ethernet will pretty much always sacrifice speed for stability. If there is a lot of cross-talk speed will suffer first and if its really bad stability will suffer.

Packet loss and data corruption. But that's mostly if the entire cable is untwisted. Chances are that it is. It's just the ends that aren't supposed to be so you can shove them in to the plug.

Maybe, there was some room at the end where they were not twisted.

I ran a test and i am getting good speeds, so i guess i'll just have to use it for a while to see about stability.

My last cable was twisted at the ends. thought that already had the plugs on,

Its not possible to have a cable twisted all the way to the ends. Part of the cable has to inside the pins. Realistically your talking about ~2-4 centimeters that are not twisted
