hey i have a couple of questions regarding GPU's

i am upgrading an old computer for a family member and i was wondering:

1: what is the beast sub$100 GPU for photo viewing? i dont think there will be editing but i just want the photos to look really good, if there is such a thing.

2: will a new model GPU work with an older model mobo? i porbably already know the answer but im just making sure.

thank you for answering my questions

1) There is no such thing as a good GPU for viewing photos. You mean like Windows Photo Viewer? If so, looking for a GPU is the wrong component, ram speed/CPU would be it, and even though don't need to be much at all. (Something that is at least compatible with Windows 8 would suffice).

2) Depends on the motherboard, but as long as it has PCI-e it will be compatible.

Actually' date=' depending on the quality of the photo, a IPS panel monitor would be a better investment.[/quote']

That is the worst recommendation I've ever heard for someone looking for a sub-100 dollar graphics card. An IPS panel is way out of the question for the price they have to spend. Also they said viewing, not editing.

No point if you all your going to do is look at pictures. GPU's are better for gaming, performance etc not really picture quality. If you want better picture quality get a better screen. Save your money and don't buy a GPU.

What's the specs of the computer? Does the CPU have onboard graphics? If not, just get a 50-70 dollar graphics card. Something like a GeForce 210.
