Hi, I was thinking of building my own gaming PC for around £600-£700 and was wondering if anyone could recommend any parts for it. I have already decided on a case the Cooler Master HAF X as is suits my style.

Any help would be much appreciated as I have never built my own PC before.

Thank you - Monty :D

I have the Cooler Master 932 Haf Advaned, I love to hate this case. I had no dog at time of purchase, and then lo-n-behold my wife puts on puppy eyes better than our spoiled english bull terrior does now. So yeah, I've since changed my case flow to single intake-3 exhaust, and two circulation fans including the cpu cooler fan (Zalman CNPS11X) Temps really didn't change, dust isn't AS BAD but now honeslty I want to get a more closed case....trade anybody? j/k lol

I would strongly recommend an AMD FX 8150 it is REALLY FAST and the price crushes intel. I also recommend MSI motherboards and graphics cards and ram from corsair or patriot.

The 8150 is a notoriously bad performer in games. Considering it is 8 cores, it really is unnecessary for gaming. The i5- 3570k beats it in many gaming benchmarks. MSI make good graphics cards, but their motherboards leave a lot to be desired. Their RMA process also isn't covered in glory either, many people commenting on the poor customer service they received.

so should i stick with the Intel i5 that you recommended?

I would, for a gaming rig, yes. Go with the i5.

The 660 is a good card and it performs well in games, however the 7870 is an equally good, if not better card. Can you afford the 7870 or are you limited a little, hence the 660?

As Linus asked Slick once said in a live stream:

"Would it bother you if all you could buy is an i7-3770k soldered onto an Asus Sabertooth Z77?"

"No"

That would be my 2 cents for CPU and motherboard since that's all you'd need for now and a long time I think. And as for GPUs, that's a hat toss b/c there are many good ones. I'm still rocking my GTX 470.

Have a look at this build, Its a little over the £700 mark (without case). But note this build including some top quality parts like the 660ti that will be able to run battlefield 3 and skyrim at high settings at 1080p, with no problem.

Happy Building :)

P.S. Remember this doesn't include the cost of the operating system.

I would argue with that. MSI make the Mpower which is a great board. Also if you use their colour scheme throughout it looks stunning.
