Hello,

I am currently in the process of build my first rig. Iv'e had gaming pc's in the past but nothing iv'e built from scratch so im going to give it a go. I'm going to be playing alot of pc games, I am going to by running some virtual pc's and want to experiment with servers and web hosting. I would like at some point up upgrade my current dual 20"w for a 4k monitor but that is a ways down the road. I will do some light video and audio editing but nothing to extensive. I am going to start out with some version of ubuntu but haven't decided which version yet. I can't decided if it is worth it to keep the 2 200m fans that the case comes with or replace it with 3 noctua fans, not sure which one will have more air flow.I have a mouse and keyboard for the time being and will think about purchasing new oens after i build the pc.

32 GB of Ram is waaaaay to much for light video editing imo. Save some money and just get 16 GB and a lower speed. Also, I've only heard bad things about Thermaltake's cases, so I'd recommend you get a better one, like the NZXT H440. And get a lower wattage PSU, maybe 750-850w? Other than that, it looks like a really solid build.

And if you're going to be gaming, why Ubuntu? I love it, but I think Windows 8.1 would be a MUCH better choice for gaming.

I would get a cheaper SSD, such as the crucial MX100/M550. Similar performance, but cheaper. 16GB of fast ram will be fine for light editing, so that saved money can be spent on a different case that is better, like the H440, arc Midi, RV05 etc. also, a smaller wattage PSU is better for this, something like a 750W should do. AX760i should do a good job. Saved money could be spent on windows, another HDD for a dual boot, and possibly more cooling.

i'm starting off with 16 gig of ram and i'll get the 32 if i fell i need it. i wanted to make the build my ultimate first build but i'll probably wait on a few things like the 2tb hd and the second 16 gig of ram. I'm actually in love with the core v71 case from thermaltake. I love the amount of fans it can have, and to my knowledge it's the only case with the ability to have 4 200mm fans.

I wanted ubuntu cause im tired of windows. If i cant play certain games or install certain software i'll probably end up putting windows on it.

Welcome to the LTT forum.

I can't really complain. I would however change out the SSD for a 256GB Crucial mx100 or a 256GB m.2 SSD as you have native support for it. For the Case i would go with a H440 or a 450D.

A water-cooled mid-tier gaming PC.

You will need A LOT of time and space, my first build took me 2.5 hours on hardware alone! For space there will be lots of manuals and boxes everywhere. Do a test boot outside the case and place your mobo on the box until you're ready for the case. Watch at least 3 build guides before starting AND GOOD LUCK!

Follow the topics you create using the "Follow" button in the top right corner!

One day I will have my GTX 970. One day. PC specs are at my profile.

Not sure how to check what part works with what? Check out my compatibility guide!

Don't see why you would ever need 32 GB of RAM esp if you say you're just going to do mainly video editing.

I don't know why everyone hates on Thermaltake cases. Maybe cause they are made of plastic and people think that's means bad quality. I have the a31 chaser the blue one I can't remember what it's name is. But I love it. Has a huge window and fans are abundant. If you like your case get it. Mines really flashy and I love it. I don't think suggestions for cases really have much value as it really just comes down to what you like. Like I did a build for someone at least the parts lists and then I set him off on his own to pick out a case he liked cause that's the most important aspect because it's so viewable.

I'm a student currently attending the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, if you attend or around there please don't hesitate to contact me!
