This is the last post about planning for my system. Its pure gaming around $1500, the system I posted a couple days ago was more expensive, but had a worse PSU and CPU. I just want to make sure everything is good, because I am going to buy the parts very soon.

     Thanks.

Do you do heavy editing/video rendering/3D modeling stuff? else get an i5 4690k instead

PSU, dont get a 850W one like that, your system need around 450W so get a 500-600W PSU instead, and if you want to do SLI then get a 750-800W PSU

And if you already have a topic on this, next time post on that topic instead of creating a new one

My rig: Intel Core i7 4790k | MSI Z97 PC Mate | GSKILL Ripjaws X 16GB 1866MHz | ADATA Premier SP550 480GB SSD | Seagate Barracuda 3TB | Seagate Barracuda 2TB  | MSI Gaming X GTX 1070 | Thermaltake Versa N21 | Corsair CX550M Semi Modular PSU | AOC G2460PF 144Hz | Logitech G502 | GSKILL Ripjaws KM780  | GAMDIAS HEPHAESTUS V2  PCPartPicker | Old Build Log | New Build Log

If its the same price... why not?

I do plan on using SLI.

And its different to the other topic.

What's the same price @@? The i5 4690k is about 100$ cheaper than the i7 4790k

And if you do then nevermind

Yes all XFX psu are made by Seasonic. The model I suggested is based on the Seasonic X-Series KM3 platform which I believe is the same platform used for the Corsair AX-760 & AX-860. The model is superior to the RM-850 in terms of build and component quality as well as power delivery.

Because the corsair RM is pretty shit (Excuse my French)  ;) I would suggest the EVGA Supernova G2. You get a huge 10 year warranty.

That is indeed an excellent psu. Unfortunately the Lian-Li case apparently has a 160 mm psu length limit. I am not familiar with the case so I don't know how "hard" that limit is.

I didn't know the max was 160mm. The XFX that brob specced is excellent if it fits  :) The EVGA was just a cheaper alternative.

I just watched this video and said that fully modular power supplies might be a problem. Should I get this? http://pcpartpicker.com/part/seasonic-power-supply-ss850am It is semi-modular.

Are you planning on adding a 2nd gpu in the future ? The guy in the video seems to suggest a non modular psu from what i can make out. I don't know if you would avoid the problem with a semi modular as the connectors are still spread out on most semi modular psu's so they could still obstruct the sata ports.

The psu in the video appears to be an 80+ 1000W Fractal Design which I believe is 165mm long. Looking at the Gigabyte motherboard layout it appears that the psu will only overlap the bottom most 2 SATA ports, possibly the bottom 4. This still leaves 2 ports free for devices even if the psu came overly close to the motherboard. A semi-modular is still modular. Most of them place the modular plugs away from the non-modular exit which puts the modular plugs in-line with any SATA ports that overlap. A 160mm psu should be okay.

Silverstone ST60F-PS is only 600W which should be more than sufficient for the build. The psu is only 140mm long and modular. Corsair HX650 is 150 mm long and semi-modular.

Is the RM850 really that bad?

According to the Corsair site the RM-850 is 180mm long. It will not fit in the case despite what pcpartpicker thinks. The RM series has mediocre component quality and power delivery. There are several competing models that use superior components, are better built, deliver cleaner power, and around the same price point.

If you plan to SLI then you will have to go with an 850W, 160mm long psu. I am not aware of any 850W psu shorter than 160mm. The alternative is to find a different case.

http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php?name=NDReviews&op=Story6&reid=369 The RM is just fine. It is one of the quietest PSUs on the market to my knowledge. The RM also has a 5 year warranty.
