how to keep settings bar on windows 8.1 from popping up?

I have windows 8.1 and a mouse with extra buttons on the side. one of the buttons works fine but the other one makes the windows pop out menu on the right side of the screen pop out. I am trying to use both of the buttons in a game so does anyone know how to disable it from popping up when I press that button?
