780 6gb vs 290x

Go to solution Solved by Sintezza,

What's the best 290x to get cooler wise was looking at a Windforce cooler. Have always bought Asus but I hear the 290x direct cu2 doesn't cool very well. Will my 600wat psu be enough to power it.

the Sapphire Vapor X  or Sapphire Tri X OC.

These 2 cards running coolest, on the lowest fan speeds.

So also the lowest noise production.

The Vapor X is the best, but it also cost abit more, then the Tri X oc.

This is because its faster, and has a backplate, and some other cool feutures, like, abillity to disable 2 fans, and a the lighted sapphire logo.

The vapor X also runs 4 degrees cooler, and is 2 / 3 FPS faster then the Tri X oc.

Offcourse the speed does not make much sense.

Still i would recommend a 290 over 290X but thats up to you.

for the love of god don't get a 6gb 780 just get a 290x and save some money

In my country the 290x is €100 cheaper than the 6gb 780, so I immedeatly bought the 290x. So far I love it!

R9-290

is the card i would go for personaly.

alot cheaper then both the 290x and 780 6GB.

;)

Very true, but if I was him (and I was in the same situation) I'd go for the 290x, He has the money and the 290x has more shader units unlocked and is overall just a bit better.

Edit: and it has an x in it's name, very important ;)

well the 290 and 290x are so close in gaming performance, that in my personal opinnion, its not worth looking at a 290X.

But yeah thats personal :)

290x done deal... get a version with a decent cooler cause it overheats

What power supply you have? model name etc... if its quality 600W will hold a 290x and the rest if its crappy then no.

290x windforce should be good enough,i saw the 290x Tri-X version has slightly better temps so you can go for that too.

I have the ASUS, and I'm REALLY happy with it, it was much cheaper than the others and it cools pretty good. I don't really know what other people are complaining about (this is my PERSONAL opinion).

There seems that some 290 (x) direct CUII series cards, had some issues, with heat pipe contacting.

At least i readed something like that. the contacting was not optimzal, for its heat dissapation. or something like that

I do agree in our Country Holland, the Pricing of the Asus is kinda tempting..

But there are Asus 290 series cards with cooler issues.

i personaly prefer the Sappi´s, even while they do not fit my color theme.

i just want a one :D

This, but also take a look at the PowerColour PCS+. It's usually pretty cheap but it's one of the best 290x's.
