So a few months back I switched the hdd on my laptop out for an SSD. I had a lot of issues getting everything to work so I had to format a few times. Windows in its infinite wisdom decided to create a recovery partition for every format I had done as I can't do a fresh install due to the Windows 8 DRM in my laptop breaking my retail key. I had a bunch of recovery partitions which I deleted but one remains, I deleted the partition like all of the others but I can't extend my primary partition to make use of it. I can make a new partition using that space alone but I'd rather have it all in one partition. I've tried device manager, Windows install usb and GParted. None of them can do it so far. :'(

When you tried to extend the partition did you have to restart? so it can extend that partition/move the data so it can do so?

Those recovery partitions exist for a reason. That little 100Mb partition at the front is very important to the OS.

There have been some updates which make it so you dont need it, but dont risk it.

You may want to try booting to a live Linux CD and modifying the partition that way. If that dosnt work, just make sure to unmount the disk first.

I know there's a reason to have them, recovery (duh :P) but I don't need it, all of my data is on a nas or cloud storage so I have no need to recover that locally, no computer needs 20+ recovery partitions at 300-400MB a pop...

I've already said I tried the linux CD and that didn't work, on Windows it'll let me right click the partition but unlike other drives it'll just show a help option, nothing else.

I didn't know about the limit but no, I haven't reached it. I have my primary, an efi partition and this one that won't extend. :/
