I'm guessing that the thermal paste just needs time to spread, but in the BIOS (wiped the HDD haven't installed OS on SSD yet) I'm getting about 37-39c idle! This was the case with my stock cooler but in about a week it began idling at 33-35c. For reference, I spent about 5 minutes (with a new cloth every 1 minute... yeah) cleaning the CPU with 70% Isopropyl alcohol. I didn't see anything left on the CPU after that. Then I put a pea sized drop in the middle. While I was pulling it back out a little bit of thermal paste made a little dot next to the pea shape, but I just continued to install the cooler. Let me say the Hyper 212 Evo has the shittiest mounting system ever. Regardless, it works. The fan is currently in push. I tried it in pull for a couple minutes with no improvement. I just like push better.

Anyway, is this normal on a 4690k? Can this be compared to 4670k's? Does the TIM need time to spread from the heat?

Thanks for your help. Just a bit worried. As of now, my stock cooler had better idle temps. If anyone's owned a Hyper 212 Evo I'd like to know what's happening.

Ambient temp is 22.5c.

EDIT: They've now moved down to the 35-37c range... guess it just takes some time to settle in. Still seems a bit high to me, though.

*EDIT: Ah, this makes me feel better... I just went through some builds with 4670k + Hyper 212 Evo on PCPartPicker. The temps I get are pretty normal... Thank god.

Seems normal enough.

EDIT: Something like a gaming load would mean more to us.

I'll try Prime95 and AIDA64 when I get an OS installed. Hope I see an improvement in load temps. Just worried about idle temps...

This is alot better now. My worries are over. Seems the cooler, the thermal paste, everything went right. I woke up this morning and on desktop with nothing running was idling at a cool and quiet 29c. I'm about to try some stress tests. Hope they go well.
