need help quick, no boot with GPU installed

Go to solution Solved by felixthemaster1,

I fixed it! such a silly problem, the card has 2 BIOS settings (traditional and uefi hybrid). On default shipping, it comes set to uefi hybrid which only windows 8+ can take advantage of. I switched it to traditional and it worked just fine! mobo detected it, windows booted, i had output. and I installed the drivers for it.

My roommate came in asking about a dual bios switch on the motherboard and then I remembered about the card's switch (MSI gaming R9 290x)

I just upgraded from a 7870 to a R9 290x and SSD. And there is no output at all, so I had to output from the mobo whilst installing windows on the new ssd. How I have installed everything and restarted the PC but the PC will not turn on, the lights all turn on but no output to monitor, keyboard and mouse lights arent light up and it just stays on the black screen. When I removed the power from the gpu, it boots just fine.

Is it using the integrated graphics? Try plugging power into the GPU but still boot using the integrated graphics to see if it's detecting your 290X or not.

HX650

got an i5 2500k if you're curious

Do you have another PC to try the GPU in? If not, try moving your PC to a different place in your house to try it on a different breaker. This sounds like a power delivery issue to me, but you may need to RMA if neither one of these options solves anything.

I tried in my roomates computer, and same issue. Moved the power cable too, same thing. I don't think it is lacking power, but by some google results someone people suggested some of the caps may have blown and wont let windows to load,

I just get a black screen with no beep

I definitely vote "dead card" then. Proceed with the RMA :(

There's two possibilities. The card is broken, or the card isn't detected.

Put the card into a PC with an IGP. Plug it all in (including the card) and plug your monitor into the motherboard not the card. Then try to boot. If it boots, then card just isn't being detected. If still doesn't boot, card is screwed.
