are there any mechanical keyboards with small/thin keys like on the sidewinderx4?

no, because the actual switches of mechanical keyboards are high profile.

If you want to make the switch to mechanical, you're going to have to get used to the high profile keys... I had to do the same from the Razer Lycosa to a Blackwidow, but I highly recommend going through with the switch. I type much faster on MX-blues than I did on any membrane keyboard. :)

You can purchase keyboards without key caps here at wasdkyboards and a DSA dolch keycap set from pimpmykeyboards here.

Unfortunately they're not slim, however, they're uniform in height so there's no slope, which would result in a similar typing experience ;)
