It's an 8 if you ignore the price.  With the price I'd give it a 2.  but damn that's a steal.

Do you want better performance? Cause you can get a Lenovo Y40 for about the same price, but get way better performance. Plus, it's low profile like the XPS 12.

None that really come to mind.  Not really into Ultrabooks.  The Y40 is honestly one of the best deals I've seen in a while.

On Amazon, it says Windows 8, not Windows 8.1. What is the difference between the two?

8.1 allows you to boot to desktop instead of the Metro screen, and has a bunch of improvements.  It's basically a service pack.  If you have Windows 8, you can install Windows 8.1 for free from the Windows Store.

My current laptop has 4GB of RAM and I don't have any issues. I am not going to be gaming on it or anything.
