Hey guys, im building my first pc and was wondering what wattage i would need to run it all, would be nice if some psu's were suggested.

Here is the parts list.

Intel i5-4690

MSI h97 gaming 3 mobo

MSI r9 280

8GB Corsair vengeance pro

2TB Seagate Barracuda 7200rpm

I have got some extras like a dvd drive, a wifi card, will probably also put in led's.

I would prefer a 80 plus psu and one that is from a trusted company, also in black.

Also note that i would maybe like to upgrade to another gpu later on, to another r9 280. Or just go for one that is more powerful to replace the r9 280.

So suggestions for psu with one r9 280, or other gpu options as i said above, thanks guys.

500w would cover that.

Personally I'd go 650w (but no bigger) to allow for future upgrading.

CX600M should do it (not sure on the PCIe connectors). Otherwise the VS? series from Cooler Master should do (again, 600 watts or more).

If you're going to do crossfired 280's or something high end like a 290X, you'll have a hard time needing more than 600W. 280's use around 200, and the 84W TDP CPU isn't overclockable.

tmc if you aren't sure about the connectors, you can simply look it up. 2x 6+2pin. Enough for a 280 or 290X/780Ti, but not enough for 2 280's. 650W+ units usually cater for SLI/crossfire setups.

For PSUs with 4 connectors that would be sufficient for crossfire 280's, I'd suggest:

Corsair CS650M. (Not a fan of RM).

Cooler Master V700. (V650S has only 2 PCIE).

Seasonic S12G 650W, G Series 650W. (X and Platinum are likely expensive).

Most Antec High Current Pro/Gamer 650W+.

Rosewill 650W Capstone and Capstone-M.

EVGA NEX650G, G1 650W. (FSP units, meh).

XFX XTR 650W, Black Edition 650W.

So i found a Corsair CX750M 80 Plus bronze hybrid modular psu, refurb for £48, im not sure what that is in dollars but thats pretty cheap. It's being sold by a trusted UK retailer, which is also a trusted Corsair re seller. Any thoughts?

The CXM Series is the semi-modular revision to Corsair's budget option, the CX Series. They're decent budget units, but not as good as the units I listed above, although it is cheaper (which is the whole point of budget units, surprise surprise..)

Okay so, obviously a good psu is recommended for a gaming rig, so just to be on the safe side, one of above you listed should be good? As i will probably dual cross fire, or upgrade depending on pricing in the future, a 750wat is recommended. All help towards this is appreciated as im quite a noob to building pc's.

You won't need 750W for crossfire 280's as I mentioned above. First and foremost I would recommend the Seasonic G 650W and XFX XTR 650W, Rosewill Capstone-650-M. More expensive/higher Wattage options would be the Seasonic X and Platinum Series 650/660W, Cooler Master V700 and V750S, and EVGA 750W G2. Budget options would be the NEX650G and CX750/M.

Ahh sorry! Misread it, thanks for that buddy. Will definitely have a look at those and most probably buy one of he above listed. Will let you know which one i pick. And one last thing, should i buy the slightly higher priced one, or would the budget one do just fine? I could probably get together some extra money for the better ones.

I would recommend more than the budget units, but they are acceptable. The more expensive units are generally better quality and perform better and last longer. It depends how long you want it to last and how well you want it to perform, and then the little things like aesthetics.

If you browse your local retailers or preferred etailers and find some other units you like the looks of, you can mention them here and get some feedback. The list I made above isn't very comprehensive.
