Safe Laptop CPU Temp

Smithy2402

Hi,

I'm a bit concerned about my current laptop. It is running very loud and hot. I have looked using 'Core Temp' and my CPU is averaging at around 80. Is this safe? What can I do to get it lower and is there a way to be able to control fan speeds?

Thanks

Is it 80 degrees while idle or under load?

Hardly any load. Just light web browsing.

EDIT: It idle's at around 70

That doesn't sound safe to me. 80 is what you should be expecting from a CPU under heavy load.

Maybe clean the heat-sink, 70-80 would be normal under heavy load.

Which CPU is it? I'd guess the max operating temp is somewhere around 100 C, but 70 C idle is still pretty high. First step would probably be to try and get at the fans with some compressed air to clean out the dust. Also, make sure you're not putting the laptop on a soft surface that will block the intakes. Cooling pads are pretty cheap, and will make sure you're not suffocating your laptop?

remove the dust, 22 months ago I had my GPU unning at 97°C under load and everything lagged, after cleaning the fan i had more FPS and under load it had 78°C
