(Don't know where to put this sorry mods)

So i have a home server i built that backs up some other computers in the house and keeps movies music and pictures stored

however it also manages our battery backup systems and keeps the firewall, modem, AT&T Microcell for our cell phones, Vonage for home phone, and switches running when we loose power (VERY Common in Florida)

but i only get about 30-35Mins on battery back up and power this summer can go out for almost an hour and a half before the local utility even attempts to fix it (High winds and such)

Now without the server running i get 1hr30m to 1hr45m of backup

Server specs (random parts)

Pentium D 945 ~@3.4GHz

HP Workstation MB LGA775

8800 GTS 512MB (no onboard)

4GB DDR2 RAM @ 800MHz

160GB Segate Boot Drive

500GB WD Blue Storage

1TB WD Green Backup

650W Cooler master GX PSU

Now i have a Pentium D 2.8GHz, even a P4 somewhere that i think is 2.8 that i can put in to help with consumption, and a lower wattage GPU,

maybe a lower psu?

Any other ideas?

I have found this to be a very valuable tool. Just plug in the required hardware and click the 'calculate' button.

 its says around 289Watt, should i buy a 350 or 400Watt ?

I would suggest that if you are worried about power consumption getting a power supply that is enough (350 - 450 watt) and then looking at the efficiency. Most power supplies are most efficient at or around 50% power consumption. Look into a 'gold' power supply that fills your needs. Going too large will keep the power supply from reaching its full potential. Going too small will have the same result.

Rosewill Capstone power supplies are very highly rated. This one is right at about $60 dollars USD.

alright thanks
