Hello fellow LTT members, I'm in need of your help.

 

For the past week, my internet has been playing up terribly. I can not watch videos at 720p, it even stops at 144p on YouTube....

Webpages take a long time to load, ie, LinusTechTips just took me around 1 1/2 minutes to load, usually loads instantly as i have it set as a secondary homepage. 

 

The problem is, this has been for the past week. Before then, my internet was best that I am paying for, 16Mb down, and unspecified up speeds (usually around 0.7 - 0.9 Mbps), on wireless. I have even tried Ethernet cables and other computers but to no joy. I have a feeling my ISP might be throttling me. (I tend to basically live on YouTube and watch Twitch occasionally) 

 

Is there any way I can tell for definite that my ISP IS throttling me?

Also, should mention, checked all the other PC's in the house and nothing is taking up un-necessary bandwidth

Unplug all the cables from your router and plug them back in and then reset your router.

Tried that multiple times, about 5 times today. Its one of the first things that I did when this started happening.

wifi secure?

Is it your account?  If you share with the account holder they can throttle connections from within the router/prioritize traffic.

 

call your ISP.  They can tell you any interruptions that have happened, and what speeds you should be getting.
