Hey a work mates cpu died recently it was an old amd and a replacement cpu was not available, so he decided to get new hardware (Motherboard and cpu).

I forgot about having to do a clean install  of windows as its not a big issue for me. but his machine was a prebuilt acer unit. am I going to have issues doing a clean install.

I was thinking of using my windows 7 oem disk and his code. but im now thinking that its going to not like that as it will be a acer code.

You could use phone activation, but there's a chance he could get away withing a fresh install.

If there is a sticker on his prebuilt with a windows code then I would just call Microsoft and tell them the CPU died and you needed to replace the mobo and do over the phone activation.
