My neighbors printer isn't working correctly, as in it wont stop displaying the message "ink cartridge(s) appear missing or damaged". They never used any cheap type of ink that wasn't supposed to be in the printer. They only used the correct brand/type of ink. They tried taking it out and placing it back in but that didn't even work. Then they even tried restarting the power to the printer, didn't work. Can anyone help? Do they need a new printer? Or is this problem fixable? Thanks for any help!!!!

Did they try new ink cartridges?

Im not sure honestly. but, lets do this both ways for now... What if they didn't? What if they did?

If they didn't: I would suggest replacing them to see if that makes a difference.

If they did: Could be something wrong with one of the slots in the printer.  Try taking them all out, and see if you can replace them 1 by 1 and see if the printer displays anything differently with them all out/replacing a few.

^^

it could also be the contacts between the ink cartridges and the print head
