Hey everyone

So this is about the 20th list I have made but I finally pinned it down to two list, one is an AMD build while the other one is just a normal CPU build.

Just a quick over all.

My price is $1000 AU max

It's going to be used for gaming, school work basically take over my laptop's job as it is almost completely dead.

Also I need to replace it ASAP

So the first build which I thought would work well is the AMD Build.

Then we have the Intel Pentium Anniversary Edition Build, which I know is not as great as the AMD build but I was thinking with in a couple of months or so I could upgrade the CPU

http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=wish_lists&wlcId=327287&action=wish_lists

So I would like your thoughts on what works well, what doesn't and basically in the end which build is better.

Thanks to everyone who even stop to take a moment out of their time just to look at this it means so much to me, and I guess I should leave it there.

Thank you once again

What parts are going to be in your intel build? The link takes me to the product page of the CPU.

EDIT: Just noticed a wireless card in your AMD build. I personally recommend a USB wifi adapter due to the ability to move the connection closer if you have a USB extension cable.

Just a personal thing, really. TP-Link products are in the middle between good and bad for me due to past experiences.

Hmm looks good to me overall...

I'd personally get the AMD build only if you don't plan on upgrading the intel build's CPU within the next 4 - 5 months.

I like having lots of processing power here and now.

The motherboard in the AMD build is not very good.

If upgrading the Intel cpu is a realistic option I would go with that build. Although you might consider going with the Phenom mITX case and a WiFi Z97 mITX motherboard. Perhaps BitFenix Phenom Mini ITX Case Black and ASRock Z97E-ITX/ac Motherboard. It is a few dollars less expensive and eliminates the need for an add-on card.

Regardless of the build you decide to go with I would suggest getting the Silverstone Strider Plus 600W ST60F-PS 80 Plus Silver psu. Not only is it an excellent modular power supply it is also 140 mm long which make things much easier in a small case. 600W is more than enough for either build and can handle an Intel cpu upgrade. It is the same price as the HCG 620W at pccasegear.

@brob

Say I was going towards the AMD build. What changes would you recommend??

I'd just go for it and buy the parts you selected for the AMD build.

-snip-

The board chosen is fine. The suggestion you gave him would have costed $100 more.

Ok so it's all fine? Sorry I worry a lot :S there is nothing I could change or add to improve it with out going over my budget?

How do you figure the $100 more?

     Intel mATX Build:

          WiFi Adapter $15

          mobo $149

          case $95

          Total: $259

    Intel mITX Build:

          mobo $179

          case $85

          Total $264.

     Difference $5.

Pccasegear appears to only have one non-ATX AM3+ motherboard.

I thought you were talking about changing out the AMD board, I misread.

mATX is generally easier to build with and has better airflow(obviously depending on case). mITX is smaller by just a bit but may lack expand ability basically.

This is the only other MOBO I could find for the AMD Build

http://au.pcpartpicker.com/part/gigabyte-motherboard-ga78lmtusb3

So just wondering which one would work better with the build?

If I had to make a choice it would be the Asus motherboard. For some reason AMD mATX AM3+ are only available with the 760G chipset. That chipset does not have great power management or heat dissipation. Overclocking is not recommended.
