I am building a new desktop pc. I will be using it for web browsing and gaming, games like total war Rome 2 and simcity, these require high graphics and I will be playing them at max levels. My CPU is an intel i5 4690 socket 1150 but I am very confused regarding the motherboard.  Had a look at motherboards on newegg and ebuyer but there is a huge variety. I'm thinking of an atx which has atleast 2 ram slots as i will be using 2x 4GB and a slot for a graphic card (i will be using nvidea). I need help :)

so what would be the difference between choosing this one compared to a more expensive motherboard. lets say in terms of gaming etc..

It won't.

Expensive motherboards just have overclocking stuff etc.

Regarding performance, 0% difference. They have more connectivity (I doubt you need more than the Asrock H97 Pro4 has), and many times the other motherboards have a higher end audio solution, which unless you have a really good pair of headphones, won't make a difference.

ok and this is an atx right? it dosen't say anything on the website.

Looks like microATX to me, no difference to the chip as you're not overclocking.

Just to double check; if I use micro atx what disadvantage will that give me compared to an atx, given that I am using 2x ram and a graphic card

1150 socket motherboards have 2 or 4 memory slots, this one harrynowl recommended has 4 memory slots and it's mATX. This motherboard is great if you only use 1 graphics card, and it also has other expansion slots if you want an addon card there.

ATX is bigger, and has more expansion slots. You will need to move to Z97/Z87 if you plan on doing SLI, however crossfire can be done on H87/H97 motherboards. The chip doesn't affect performance, just features.

There are many other motherboards that can work our for you, what's your budget/location? what case do you have? Do you plan on doing SLI/Crossfire?

My budget is around £65, i'm in the uk. I haven't yet decided on the case but I suspect I cant use an atx case with a matx and I'm not planning on using more than one graphic card.

I had a look at newegg and found this mother board: http://www.newegg.com/global/uk/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157383. what do you think about this?

ATX and micro ATX share mounting holes, whatever ATX you have it does support mATX motherboards. However if you can fit the full size ATX mobo, I guess it good to have the extra expansion slots.

With your budget you can get the MSI Z97 PC Mate, it's a Z97 motherboard so it will support overclockeable chips and 5th gen CPUs (to arrive on 2015). It's full ATX, but it still won't support SLI, like the motherboards on this price range.

I suggest you go for a H97 / Z97 motherboard, not only to be able to run future CPUs, but because many Z87 /H87 /H81 motherboards need a bios update to be able to run the Haswell Refresh CPUs (like the i5 4690).
