So I'm doing my first build and I bought a motherboard an asus z87 pro.

But I was just looking around the other day and I've been seeing talk about better motherboards and I'm mainly useing the pc for games so should I stick with what I have or should I buy something better for the long run? Money isn't really a problem so this is why I want to know.

Yes. Before I knew what I was really building. Didn't have a plan at that time.

That wasn't a good idea huh, so for your question, it comes down to what you want. You could pair this mobo with a high-end CPU and it'll last you for a while. If you want next years "broadwell" then current Z97 boards will support it.

Other things like GPU, RAM etc. wont be a problem, all will work with what you have now and what's coming next year.

The most common result of insufficient wattage is a paperweight that looks like a PC

This is all still kinda new to me. I've heard broadwell mentioned before but I don't know what it is.

It's next years range of intel CPUs

It's a perfectly good board, most people today are buying Z97 motherboards to be able to upgrade to a 5th generation CPU next year, not that  Z87 is bad.

Less than 10% of the people that is buying Z87 today will actually upgrade to a better CPU, the performance upgrade between generations is almost never worth it, as it performs pretty similarly.

Your motherboard won't affect performance, it doesn't speed up the system, or make the CPU/GPU run faster. It's just a matter of features and being able to upgrade.
