Hi.

Just built my new PC two days ago. Budget of $150 for 128GB or 256GB SSDs. I will look at M.2 as well, like the Plextor M6e or the Crucial M550 M.2 version if they have better performance.

840 Evo is very generic, but I'll get it if like EVERYONE suggest it. But I would like to potentially save a couple bucks and get something cheaper.

^^^ - Don't just recommend the 840 Evo before reading this part.

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

I have 2 Samsung 840 EVOs in Raid 0 and they are pretty good so far, the only thing I would say is you have to manually set the over provisioning.

However, I'd actually recommend sata SSDs because the Crucial M500 I dont think would be able to take full advantage of M.2.  So you could save the M.2 for a REALLY fast SSD.  I'd recommend the Crucial M550 or the Samsung 840 EVO, generally the m550 has more stability on paper but really, the 840 EVO should last beyond long enough before you upgrade your drive.

Well the 840 Evo 250GB doesn't fit in my budget. It's $149.99 before s/h and taxes, so it'll be at least $10 more. I would like 256GB. I could get the SP920 because it's on sale for $130, or the XLR8 Pro, or the MX100. Those are basically the only ones I could find under $150 that are 256GB.

Which one would be the best? I don't really need 256GB, but it would be nice to have. If not, I'll get myself a 120GB 840 Evo.

Besides the speed the Magic software from Samsung is really good. Nobody else has anything close to it. For sheer bang for the buck the MX100's are where it's at. Watch where you buy them tho. Not everyone is on the bandwagon and you can get rooked. I'd go through Amazon.ca which is also offering free shipping which is a bonus. If you're on a really tight budget, $110 for a 256 gb SSD can't be beat.

Sir William of Orange: Corsair 230T - Rebel Orange, 4690K, GA-97X SOC, 16gb Dom Plats 1866C9,  2 MX100 256gb, Seagate 2tb Desktop, EVGA Supernova 750-G2, Be Quiet! Dark Rock 3, DK 9008 keyboard, Pioneer BR drive. Yeah, on board graphics - deal with it!
