$800 or under budget build

Hello, I'm a student on a budget and I am looking to build myself a homework (Gaming) Computer for under $800. It has been atleast a few years since I built my last computer and feel overwhelmed with the huge amount of choices available! In the past I have always used Amd brand Cpu and Gpu due to the lower price. But I hear the new i5k series from Intel packs a punch? I was thinking of going for a liquid cooled processor and would like the option to overclock. I already have a moniter/keyboard/mouse and if needed I can use my old video card to keep initial costs down. I am upgrading because my current system is starting to feel dated and struggling to keep up with what I ask of it. As far as the case goes I am picky and enjoy a clean streamlined case.

8gb ram

and a crap motherboard that wont let me overclock

You may have listed a heap of parts that all add up to your preferred budget but it is easier if you just list the total amount you'd like to spend and the currency as well as if you'd consider going above that budget for more performance. We need the location as well because $US are different to $AUD and $CAD ect.

2. Aim
What is the system going to be used for? Web browsing, 3D work? Different systems need different levels of performance - a computer based for web browsing and office use won't handle heavy graphic design and video editing and a proper video editing system isn't good for gaming. If your aim is for gaming, please list what sort of gaming. In the same way that different usage types need different systems, you'll need a lot more power to run Far Cry 3 or Crysis 2 than you would Minecraft.

3. Monitors
How many monitors do you plan on running? Do you plan on moving to more monitors in the future? What resolution are they at too?

4. Peripherals
Do you also need to purchase peripherals such as keyboards and mice as well as monitors ect. Also please tell us if you'll need an OS such as Windows.

5. Why are you upgrading?
We ask this because you may see upgrading as the only path to solve an issue but things such as driver updates, reconfiguration or cleaning can boost performance without spending a cent.

 

after that what i suggest doing is saving the 8gb of ram you have to save money there

If I were you, I would start by just getting an ssd and seeing if you really need to upgrade.

There's no point to get $75 processor when you spend $160 on a motherboard, at that point it's better to get a 8320 and a M5A97 R2.0.

Sorry I left those out. I get nervous when I think about spending money I am located in the U.S, I prefer Games such as Battlefield, Skyrim, and War thunder but i do occasionally play Shogun 2. I do currently run two monitors and would need a copy of windows. I am upgrading because I feel that my computer is struggling to run games at 1080p in the higher settings I enjoy. I have thought about upgrading my current pc but i feel that my motherboard the GIGABYTE GA-M68MT-S2 AM3+ is limiting me?

You have to remember that the Pentium is unlocked and you can squeeze a ton of juice from it. If there's a cheaper, overclocking ready solution, go ahead and recommend it please.

Thanks for the fast responses! It has been a huge help. Friday is payday so I will continue to watch this post until I order the parts. So far it looks like the main difference is going to be that choice of processor. I will run off and do some reading about the fx vs i5 and see if its worth the xtra couple of $$

He doesn't need $100 ram that's that crappy and he could add a 280X or even a GTX 770 and be in budget if you get correctly price ram.

You get an SSD, a really good GPU and it's only $808.72.  It should last you a long time, and you always have the option of upgrading to the Devil's Canyon i5 or i7 since it's a Z97 motherboard.

It's the overclockable anniversary edition pentium that is on par with the i5 on most single threaded tasks and overclocks like a beast.  Also, I said that he can upgrade it if he finds this amazing piece of silicon to be insufficient.
