Newb question

Go to solution Solved by Toxiclegend,

I haven't been going into bios settings for many years , as my last PC lasted me for around 8 years , which just rip recently

Question : , just wondering is there any self update option on bios configuration areas on current mobos ? If there is , can I just do it from there ?

Nope not to my knowledge, still you'd need a CPU to turn the PC on to even get to the BIOS so even if there was you'd still need a CPU to boot and if you got the 4690k it wouldn't recognise it and it wouldn't boot.

You could either buy a normal Haswell CPU or try sell the mobo and buy one already supporting the refresh from the box.

Pardon me for being newbie

As of this moment, I have a z87 g1 sniper ......

I bought this few months back ... How ever till now I have not yet purchased my processor ,,,,

I intend to get devil canyon i5 .....

I been reading up ..and being said I have to update the mobo before installing the proccessor ..

How does one update in that manner , since I won't be doing it from windows ?

Thank you very much ...

And that children, is why you buy your parts together.

You need to find out what bios your motherboard is running and whether or not it's compatible with the new CPUs. If you bought it before the release of Devil's Canyon then my guess is you'll have to update it somehow, you could borrow a CPU from a friend or maybe some kind of PC shop can do it for you.

Go to gigabytes site and look up the CPU support list and available BIOS just like you should always do.

if it is supported you just need a BIOS update to F8 or 9 but I think you should be fine with the BIOS update.

edit: I'd check for you but I don't know which version the Sniper you have.

G1. Sniper z87 , no extra words or anything else just that

What do you mean by f8 or f9 ?

I press that and it auto updates during bios loading ?

No it's just the BIOS version on their site

Check this as you can see the the sniper support and here is the latest bios update.

Check the CPU is on the first link and then download from the 2nd if it is. Then update the BIOS on the mobo and it will support the CPU as per the first link

Ok so , if I want to get I have to i5 4690k .... The only method I can do with updating it is from PC shop or borrow from a fren 4gen CPU, that is not Haswell refresh or devil canyon ...

Any other ways ?

That CPU is supported so you can download the driver and then yeah you'll have to have a non Haswell refresh and update then you're done this is going to be the only way I know. I'd love for someone to tell me I'm wrong to make it a lot easier for you.

The shop will do it usually without any problems at all, I usually find the smaller the shop the more friendly they are on this stuff.

Sure you're welcome :) Glad we could help, have a good day.
