I was planning out a build for my dad, who uses his failing laptop for general things like Skype, web browsing and occasional light gaming like SC2. However he would like it to be "future-proof" for as long as possible. I would appreciate any opinions on - http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/jXxLwP

I already have some spare parts that I was planning to use, 4GB of RAM, a 550w PSU, a 1GB video card, and a microATX case.

That spec is very unbalanced. You have a cheap cpu and a top end gpu.

What is the 550W psu that you already have ? i.e make and model

The 4GB ram might be ok to reuse, although 8GB is usually the sweet spot for gaming. You could try the 4GB first before splashing out on a new kit.

The graphics card is waaaaaay overkill for 'light' gaming, especially on a 1080p monitor. Save your money and get a R9 280, or even a 270X. It is a simple job to update the gpu later on should your dad need something better.

What is your current make/model psu ? If it is a good brand then you can reuse it.

Also do you plan on overclocking the cpu for your dad ? If not then I suggest the non 'k' version cpu and a h97 or h81 board.
