On the large majority of games, GPU is the deciding factor, you could spend your money on a i3 and a cheap motherboard and have only 1-3 fps difference with a more expensive and overclocked CPU.

If the game does benefit from the CPU, it's all about how optimized it is. If the game can make 4 cores work, then the locked i5 will perform better than the OC'ed pentium K. More gigahertz doesn't mean more performance.

On other games, that are CPU bound and poorly optmized (only use one core), like MMOs, and games like Starcraft II, the Pentium chip, if well OC'ed, can overcome other CPUs. Either way you go, with your system you are still getting 60fps+ on those games anyways.

 

I still prefer a processor that will allow me to do other stuff, computing wise the i5 is better, and even for multitasking it is. I like having 2 monitors, and while gaming still do plenty of stuff at the same time. Having the extra cores can make a difference, specially if you are streaming.
