It has been a while now since I built my PC (maybe 1 and a half years) and I feel like I need and want to upgrade. Although I researched for quite a while before my first build I feel like I haven't completely kept up to date on PC parts, so I am coming here for help.

This is my current PC: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/2dkCFT

When this PC was built I didn't have a huge budget and have added to it a little at a time, but now I feel like I should do a larger upgrade and have a few ideas:

  • To replace the Phenom with a FX-8350. My first question with this would be whether my motherboard supports it? I would also like to known whether you guys think it will be a worthwhile performance improvement. I feel like I need to upgrade my CPU because I would like to be able to have more power to multitask as I am noticing some lag in games like CS:GO whilst watching Videos and I would like to be able to stream to twitch. Also would there be much difference between this and the 8320?

  • To add an SSD to the build and do a fresh install of windows. I wanted an SSD when I first built my PC, but it was too much for my budget, but now I feel like my PC would greatly benefit from the addition of one. I was looking at the Samsung 840 Evo 120GB, but any SSD suggestions would be great.

  • To buy a fully modular and higher capacity power supply. At Christmas this year I think I will spend money on a new graphics card (not currently of too much importance to me) and I think I may go with something like a 770 or r9 290. To do this I feel like I will need more power to run it, but I also would just like less of a cable mess in my case which I had to squeeze all the unused cable around the back.

What I am asking for is your suggestions on how best to upgrade my PC either based on my thoughts above or how you think it would benefit best. I should also add that I live in the UK so prices on parts may be different.

Thanks

8320. Your motherboard should support it. Since you want to get a different, more powerful GPU later this year, I would go with this since it won't bottleneck. And if you can, you should get a new power supply.

Thanks for the Reply. Do you think the 8350 isn't worth it then? And should I get an SSD?

The 8350 is basically an 8320 overclocked right out of the gate.

I personally think you should get the SSD after the graphics card, if you feel that yours is beginning to slouch in modern games. If you feel that it's doing okay, then I would get the 8320 and the SSD (again, assuming that you are able to get both).

Well I was looking at the Samsung 840 EVO 120 GB so probably about £60

Real World performance wise there is little noticeable difference between models. You could go very inexpensive, Mushkin MKNSSDCR120GB-7. A little more expensive, but newer tech, Crucial CT128MX100SSD1. A little more expensive but larger Intel SSDSA2CW160G310, or go for twice the storage for only 30% more Crucial CT256MX100SSD1.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

Yes, it is a good ssd. I wanted to point out that you can save quite a bit without sacrificing performance. Or better yet get a larger unit for not much more.
